Elliott said there was a time where he did about "half-half" between the box and the sideline, where Stuart has spent the majority of his own career.

But Stuart moved upstairs two weeks ago for the South Sydney game and has been there ever since, coinciding with the Raiders' two-game winning streak.

They need that to continue for their four remaining games if they're to take part in the NRL finals, as they sit two wins behind eighth-placed Penrith.

The first of those must-wins is the New Zealand Warriors in Auckland on Sunday.

Elliott said the coach's box gave a "greater strategic perspective" of the field and how both teams were performing, while the sideline led to a better "feel of the level of communication and physicality".

While he said a majority of a coach's work was done before game day, he did feel you could occasionally change a game and that was better done from the box.

"Being in the box certainly allows you a more holistic understanding of what's going on in the game and to provide the feedback required to players," Elliott said.

"The day the coach has the least amount of impact is game day.

"All you're there to do on game day is remind players of what they've done in their preparation and get them to focus in on what their best emotional state is to play and their key duties.

"Occasionally you can make a strategic tactical change in a game that makes a difference, but a majority of games your work is done before game day.

"Ricky might've just made a decision he wants to get a different perspective on the games to ensure the stuff he's done in preparation is getting executed on the field better."

Raiders captain Jarrod Croker hoped the move was a good-luck omen for the Green Machine as they fight to keep their season alive.

He felt the reason Stuart made the move to get an idea of his team's energy and effort levels throughout the game.

While it's been part of the Raiders' back-to-back wins, it's also robbed the sideline of Stuart's famous passion as he would've been jumping for joy after both wins.

"It wasn't much to do with being down on the sideline or showing passion," Croker said.

"It was more the fact, about three weeks ago we spoke, I think it was against Melbourne, we had to have high energy, we had to have more push on the ball, and little efforts off the ball.

"Ricky's thought on that was 'What better way to see all people's effort off the ball than up in the stands.'

"It's a bit hard to see everything on the sidelines as opposed to being up in the grandstand. He went up there for that and I think we went pretty well so he stayed up there."

Elliott felt if both teams played at their best then the Raiders win, it was just a matter of the visitors ensuring they produced their best.

The Green Machine have won their last three meetings against the Warriors, who are on a cold streak of five consecutive losses.

But across the Ditch hasn't been a happy hunting ground for the Raiders, who have won only 33 per cent of games there.

Elliott said the dominance of Canberra's pack had been noticeable in recent weeks, especially against the highly regarded Cronulla forwards, which had provided time and space for their playmakers in behind.

"The extra two seconds or metre you get when your forwards are dominating that ruck space makes a huge difference to the high-skilled players," he said.
