Joey Leilua's weapon of choice is Instagram, appearing to confirm his move to the Canberra Raiders on a video posted by Canterbury Bulldogs forward Frank Pritchard.

A Raiders spokesperson said the club was aware of the video, but at this stage there was no official announcement.

Former Kangaroos and Queensland prop David Shillington was linked in a player switch to join the Knights, but Fairfax Media has been told that won't be happening.

The Newcastle Knights released Leilua from his contract on Monday, opening the door to join the Raiders before the June 30 deadline.

Leilua was 18th man for NSW in 2011, made his representative debut for City Origin in 2012 and was a standout performer for Samoa at last year's Four Nations tournament.

Samoa coach Matt Parish told Fairfax Media on Monday that Leilua would be a great signing for the Raiders.

"BJ is a world-class player, he proved that last year in the Four Nations," Parish said.

"The Knights play him on the left side and when he plays for Samoa he plays right, he's a very powerful right centre.

"I think he will be enormous for coach Ricky Stuart and the team down there.

"BJ has had a few dramas, but with the guys down there, particulary Sia Soliola, I know he'll certainly respond and the way Ricky coaches, he will bring out the best in him."

The Raiders have been the favourites to secure Leilua's services since he activated a get-out clause in his contract in May to become a free agent for next season.

The only concerns are around Leilua's attitude. The Raiders are confident he will blossom in their system with the influences of senior players such as Soliola and Frank-Paul Nu'uausala.

Leilua will be favoured to start at right centre at the Raiders to allow Sisa Waqa to move to his preferred spot on the wing.

"The thing I've found about BJ the last couple of years, every time I've coached him he's got better as a player," Parish said.

"I coached him at the World Cup in 2013 and he was really good there, and he was fantastic last year at the Four Nations.

"He played in the Test against Tonga this year, and he was great."

Leilua is the latest addition to a talented and youthful Raiders backline featuring Jack Wighton, Jarrod Croker and Edrick Lee.

"It's outstanding, there wouldn't be too many backlines in the competition with that sort of strikepower," Parish said.

"The more stable and happy he is off the field, the better he will be on the field."

Other players talked about in a player switch were forwards Joel Edwards, Mark Nicholls and Tevita Pangai.

The Raiders return to training on Tuesday to start preparing for Saturday's game against the North Queensland Cowboys at Canberra Stadium.
