Lagi Setu has come and gone from the Canberra Raiders without playing an NRL game.

Setu has been released from the final year of his contract with the Raiders to sign a one-year deal with the Sydney Roosters.

Setu has played 71 NRL games with the Brisbane Broncos, St George Illawarra Dragons and Melbourne Storm, but  has played no matches this year.

The Raiders have focused on recruiting backline players, including Blake Austin, Sisa Waqa and Sam Williams, for this season, as well as forwards Iosia Soliola and Josh Hodgson, who both arrived from the British Super League.

But the Raiders are also banking on the emergence of promising juniors Patrick Mago, Tevita Pangai and Luke Bateman to push for NRL starts in coming seasons. The club are also toying with the idea of giving prop and NSW Country representative Paul Vaughan more time in the back row.
