Melbourne team video to be given as evidence to NRL after Hobart high shot

February 19, 2012

MELBOURNE says it has video evidence of a high tackle, believed to have been made by Brisbane star Petero Civoniceva, that resulted in Storm forward Ryan Hinchcliffe being stretchered off in yesterday's NRL trial in Hobart.

Hinchcliffe was heavily concussed in a 73rd minute tackle, with the game held up for several minutes as the lock was taken from North Hobart Oval on a stretcher.

There were no television cameras or replays available at the match, but Storm coach Craig Bellamy said the club had its own footage of the tackle, with veteran Civoniceva, playing his first game for the Broncos in four years, under suspicion.

''We've got an end-on [camera], we've got the shot so it's a bad tackle,'' Bellamy said.

Storm captain Cameron Smith said the tackle was likely to attract the attention of the NRL's match review committee.

''The boys out there said he certainly got him on the button,'' Smith said.

''It's out of our hands now, that goes to the match review panel and they normally deal with things pretty well there.''

Hinchcliffe's injury was one of several concerns to come out of the 34-30 win to Melbourne, with Broncos winger Jharal Yow Yeh suffering a shoulder problem and hooker Andrew McCullough playing on with nine stitches in his head.

Brisbane coach Anthony Griffin said Yow Yeh, who didn't play the second half as a precaution, was likely to be ready for his side's round one clash with Parramatta.

''He's not too bad,'' Griffin said.

''He'll get it checked out properly when we get back to Brisbane.''

Cooper Cronk and Test fullback Billy Slater bagged doubles as the Storm raced to a 34-16 lead by the 54th minute.

A crowd of 11,752 turned up, making the Storm's Hobart venture a success.
