In what was the Raiders' worst performance of the season, they leave Brisbane this morning having been flogged 30-6 by the red-hot Broncos and with their inspirational captain's immediate future in doubt.

Campese was carried off Suncorp Stadium in the 39th minute when his left knee gave way while tackling Brisbane prop Josh McGuire.

It is the same knee in which the Kangaroos and NSW pivot tore the anterior cruciate ligament in 2010, which ruined his 2011 campaign.

Campese will have scans on Monday to confirm the damage. He was optimistic last night it would not be a long-term injury, although even a medial strain could keep him out for up to six weeks.

''I'm hoping it's just a medial strain or a bit of meniscus but we'll we'll find out when I get the scan on Monday. All the pain's on my medial side so I'm hoping,'' Campese said.

''We've got the bye luckily [next weekend] so hopefully with a bit of rest I'll be right to play the Sharks [on April 29].''

Campese had struggled with fluid on both knees before and after last Sunday's win over the New Zealand Warriors and had only one training run this week. But Campese said he had no doubts over his fitness starting last night's match.

''I just had the strapping there for precaution,'' Campese said. ''I got through [Thursday's training] session 100 per cent, I didn't feel that at all. Even just before I hurt it in that first half I was feeling really good there, 100 per cent, it's just one of those things.''

The 27-year-old had enjoyed an impressive start to the season and was in contention for both the Country and NSW No.6 jerseys.

His loss will be a massive blow to a Raiders team already contending with a big injury toll. Kiwi backrower Bronson Harrison could also be in doubt for New Zealand selection, leaving the ground last night in a rebabilitation boot on his right foot.

However, injuries can't be used as an excuse for an insipid performance. Barring the first 15 minutes, when the Raiders held a 6-0 lead, the visitors were never in the contest.

The Raiders started brightly when Joe Picker dived on Josh McCrone's ricocheted grubber kick to give them the lead after five minutes. Video referee Chris Ward needed several replays before deciding Picker had grounded the ball with the benefit of the doubt.

From there it was all downhill.

Again, it was the Raiders' left-edge defence which proved the major headache. Broncos captain Sam Thaiday barged his way through some porous defence to get the hosts on the board in the 18th minute.

International front-rower Ben Hannant exposed the same soft underbelly to give the Broncos the lead.

Another piece of ill-discipline was all five-eighth Corey Norman needed to set up Matt Gillett for the Broncos' third four-pointer.

In the absence of injured halfback Peter Wallace, who was a late withdrawal with a groin strain, Norman had his best game at No.6 since filling the sizeable shoes of Maroons legend Darren Lockyer.

The sight of Campese clutching his knee overshadowed Gillett turning provider for Norman as the Broncos took a commanding 20-6 lead into half-time.

Norman then capped his man-of-the-match performance when he completed a double, regathering a grubber kick to score in the 70th minute. Josh Papalii could be in trouble for a dangerous tackle. Papalii wasn't placed on report, but teammate Joel Thompson wasn't as fortunate with his swinging arm.
