NSW centres..it looks like Josh Morris will partner Michael Jennings if Jarryd Hayne is selected at fullback. Any bolters?

I agree with the numbers in the poll and think Pat Richards will get the nod on the other wing for NSW. What do you think?

Could be a good time to get Ryan James in your squad with Nate Myles and Greg Bird set for long Origin campaigns.

Bad news for Dragons fans with Jason Nightingale to miss some footy with a knee injury.

"Jason Nightingale suffered a medial ligament injury to his left knee," said Dragons Performance Director Andrew Gray.

"He is currently in a brace and we're expecting him to miss beween three to four weeks.

Some news out of North Queensland

What did everyone think of the representative round? I thought plenty of people put their names forward for Blues selection in the City-Country game and it was good to see the Kiwis push the Kangaroos for the majority of the match. And how good was the Fiji-Samoa match!

But there were also some injuries to come out of it, so stay tuned to see if players will back up for their club teams in the next couple of hours.

Aloha and welcome to Talkin’ teams and Ultimate League chat for round 9. After a couple of weeks in Hawaii I’m back in the chair to bring you all the latest teams and Ultimate league news for round 9.

  • Retain Aus reps & in-form NSW reps. Unf B Moz shaded - Hayne & J Moz rated country's best left side pairing (WC, ditto Anzac test but Hayne unfit).

    1 Dugan
    2 Pat Richards
    3 Jennings
    4 Hayne
    5 J Moz
    6 Maloney
    7 Pearce
    8 Woods
    9 Farah
    10 Gallen
    11 Watmough
    12 Cordner
    13 Bird

    14 Fifita
    15 Tamou
    16 Merrin
    17 Peats

    18 J Reynolds

Jennings - defence, speed, backline stability from last year, a left centre.
Dugan - tackle busting equal to Hayne.
Gallen to prop - wealth of back rowers.
Richards in-fom, kicking insurance for series. Some mayhem from kick-offs.
Halfback focus must be (1) leveraging the talent (2) kicking. Pearce is the man - best communications, organising, passing & big-game experience.
J Reynolds' form warrants #17, but I think Peats gives a great fit - hooker/back row coverage, strength & impact, won't be left unused. Half covered by Bird (could start at 5/8 for 15 min), centres covered by Cordner.

Ill go Idris over Morris due to form and Mullen any day of the year. Pearce has had his chance and has average form at the moment. Some people are made for Origin and I think Pearce is good but not the one we need.

  • The problem is with injuries, if Maloney is no good you need Richards for the goal kicking. If Jennings is out, then Idris should come in. But at least we are talking about a similar side from the last series and not massive changes, maybe at last we are learning from our canetoad friends. I think we are a chance, the old guard are playing as bad as I have seen (bar Inglis).

  • The best fullback for NSW is Brett Stewart. If he's fit he should be in. He gave so much spark in attack when he was last in the team in 2012.

I haven't seen Hayne or Dugan win too many games on their own......

  • I know Brett Morris played for Australia my choice for wingers would be Jorge Taufua and Pat Richards. I would also play Mullens as his kicking game with these two on the wing will cause all sorts off problems for the Queenslanders. Pat Richards kicking from the restart would also cause problems and he would be used as my goal kicker. I think both bring more to the game than Morris

  • Until Inglis, Smith, Cronk and Slater and Co retire, we're no chance of beating Queensland. The people we have selected just can't beat them, so we should select with an eye on winning down the track.
Out go people like Gallen and Pearce, and don't get me started on Kurt Gidley still being mentioned for possible selection. What a joke.
Let's go for youth wherever possible and we may finally win in 3-4 years.
Losing the series 2-1 every year seems to be OK to some people, but not to true Blues fans, so let's get real.

Time to retire Pearce from the NSW side. NSW has not won a series with him controlling the team.

    • Can people stop picking Watmough in the second row. Whilst he wears 11 for Manly he hasn't played there for nearly ten years and NSW are certainly not going to play him on an edge. If he misses the starting lock position (which I'm sure he will) he might make the bench as a middle forward but definitely not as an edge forward. Also, if Pat Richards is chosen it will be if Maloney is left out and they need his goal kicking. Very hard to see him grabbing a spot if Maloney is five eighth. Finally, for all those choosing Adam Reynolds - why? How many tries as he set up this year? Pearce may not be a champion but he's the best NSW has got. They may have lost the last two series with him as half but it wasn't by much. Can not see that Reynolds would be any improvement.

I think the stage is too big for Taufua and Tupou just now. Mullen at F8 to get the kicking game right. Pearce struggles at origin with his kicking and Maloney wasn't any better. A running F8 didn't help last year

  • Why call the latest poll 'What is your NSW halves combination' when all options include Pearce? I know the selectors have probably settled on him, but at least give us some kind of short Pearce-free origin fantasy. I'm convinced the only chance we have in this series is getting flogged in the first game, Pearce having his customary shocker and being replaced by a competent half in game 2, the us winning 2-1. Why is Pearce the only player with an apparent mortgage on his Jersey when he produces the least. Also, is that a photo of Pearce dropping the ball? Fitting!!!

Brooks is the future and he's not ready. As painful as it is, Pearce is the only option. At least he's been there, nearly done that.

I would just add - take a look at Pearce's Origin matches and specifically his kicking game. He always kicks to the FB on the full, he never finds the in-goal area, and his bombs are useless. Kicking is so important in Origin and while Pearce is there we will not win a series!

He has proven over a number a series that he isn't capable of creating opportunities against Queensland. Time for him to move aside

      - Adam Reynolds
      - Trent Hodkinson
      - Luke Brooks

And as for Robbie 'hogging it', if I had flipper hands Pearce outside me, I'd hog it too. Well played, Robbie.

I am also not saying I would pick Pearce, but to say he has been the reason NSW has failed for the last 5 years based on his presence is a bit rich. 17 players make up the squad, we have been in some tight series and to cherry pick whom is at fault is simply Monday morning quarterbacking.

There's no other NSW half who has a success rate in big games, has strong defence and has a top-shelf communications/organisation/passing game. Pearce is 5/7 in semis and 1/2 in GFs. Takes quick decisions and lots of strong shouting to marshal the troops over the defeaning roar. Wallace would probably be closest.

Pearce's achievements through the semis and GF were a dozen times greater than anything that could be proven via City-Country. And it's only fair the more junior fellas get a chance to develop...
