FIVE days ago, Robbie Farah played the match of his life in the second State of Origin. No one knew then it would be the last match Sonia Farah would see her son play.
The mother of the Wests Tigers captain watched that match from her hospital bed, her body losing its battle with pancreatic cancer. Yesterday she died, casting a long shadow over Leichhardt Oval.
Farah withdrew from the Tigers' contest against Sydney Roosters early in the day as his mother's condition deteriorated. He was with his mother when she died. During an emotional moment's silence, some of his teammates wept.
Five-eighth Benji Marshall, who, along with Farah, is a star of the club, was visibly emotional before kick-off.
