Fresh reports said the Raiders had offered the "Coal Train" a new deal but he was yet to sign, with English Super League clubs knocking on the door.

But Mulholland says the offer is "basically an option that we could take up if we wanted to" and has been on the table for some time. He isn't sure if Taylor will stay in Canberra and the Raiders haven't forced the issue.

"We're just uncertain, we're just going to sit on our hands a little bit longer now and just wait and see what goes on with where we need to go, that's all," Mulholland said.

"We've never done anything. That's been sitting on the table now, neither party has taken it up. We'll just sit back and wait."

Taylor has shown glimpses of the form that made him a Queensland and Australian representative in his five NRL games for the Raiders having battled injury and illness this season.

The 28-year-old received a rugby league lifeline from the Raiders last year following a chance meeting with Canberra coach Ricky Stuart at an airport.

But injuries and a case of chicken pox have halted the Coal Train in his quest to return to his menacing best.

"We probably didn't expect any more at the start of the year. He needed some time to get back into the grind of the game and we're just waiting for that to still happen," Mulholland said.

"With the circumstances he was always going to be a bench player, he was never going to be starter. He was always going to be that impact and it's just a matter of how we can best use him and the time factor he has on the field."

Canberra forward Luke Bateman says Taylor has "come on in leaps and bounds" and hopes the giant sticks around.

"Sticky [Ricky Stuart] gave him a really big challenge when he first arrived here before Christmas and he's taken every step and stood up to every challenge that Ricky has given him," Bateman said.

"Credit to himself, he's turned his life and footy around a bit at the moment and he's playing in good form, he's been going well for us and been doing what he's been told so it's been good.

"The boys enjoy his company and he's a good player obviously. Whether he stays or whether he goes, I'd definitely like to see him stick around."
