Sure, there's one of the NRL's favourite bromances in Joey Leilua and Jordan Rapana starring on the field, but it's the relationships we don't see that Stuart takes more pride in.

Stuart couldn't do what he does without the backing of his wife Kaylie, and it's the same story for his players.

Josh Papalii has gone to another level this year and says it's all thanks to his partner Sela and young daughter Khalani-Rose.

Softly-spoken giant Junior Paulo has found a new home in Canberra and the chance to raise a family in the capital was a major factor in his decision to join the Raiders.

The list goes on, and now the Raiders will look to honour the women behind their journey on Mother's Day against the Newcastle Knights at Hunter Stadium on Sunday.

If a player isn't caring about his family or his partner, it doesn't sit well with Stuart - or the entire Raiders organisation for that matter.

But it's not something he has to worry about, because he knows his players will do anything for their families and those of their teammates.

"Ever since I was involved in this club, we've always made sure families are supported and looked after," Stuart said.

"It's a really important part of our club's DNA in making sure that we look after our own."

There is a common misconception that rugby league players go to training for a few hours for a few days of the week and then spend the rest of the day at home.

But Stuart says that is "100 per cent not the case" because there is a lot going on behind the scenes that people don't see - and none of it would be possible without their wives and partners.

"The girls have got a really big job at home too because the players have to sacrifice a lot in regards to time away, time for training, preparation, community work," Stuart said.

"They're big days some days, players get home and they're tired and moody, and the wives and partners have to put up with the lot.

"It's a big job and it's our responsibility to make them feel as much a part of it as we possibly can."

It's no secret that players often have to pick everything up and move to further their football careers, meaning their partners have to leave behind everything they know.

Some come a few hours down the road from Sydney or country New South Wales, some from Queensland, and some from the other side of the world.

The one thing they all have in common when they arrive at Raiders headquarters is they become part of another family that does everything they can to look out for each other.

"It's important that we all look after each other, because a lot of the other boys, their second families are us," Stuart said.

"It's a part of the job that you have to move away at times. I've been in that position before and I know that when your family are comfortable at home, it makes your job to prepare for a game of football so much easier.

"If we can help players with the family's lifestyle and welfare, with the children, jobs, etcetera, it's a part of our club's DNA that we look after one another and we look after each other's families.

"The boys that are from out of town, their second family is us."
