Origin hero's heartbreak as mother dies on eve of game

Wests Tigers players wore black armbands against the Sydney Roosters today after the death of Sonia Farah, the mother of captain and hooker Robbie Farah.

Tigers officials have confirmed that Sonia passed away this morning after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Farah pulled out of the clash at Leichhardt Oval and was replaced by Masada Iosefa.

Players from both sides observed a moment's silence before the match.

Sonia Farah's passing comes just days after Robbie made a record 63 tackles for NSW against Queensland in State of Origin II. She had been due to attend that match but was deemed too ill.

A club statement said: "Our deepest sympathies go out to Robbie and his family at this terribly difficult time".
