    Canberra Raiders v Cronulla Sharks

That's it from us as the Raiders prove too strong for the badly depleted Sharks. Thank you for joining us, stay with smh.com.au for all your rugby league news.

And that is fulltime, with Canberra deserving 22-12 winners in the end. The Sharks look destined for their first wooden spoon since way back in 1969.

Cronulla's woes this afternoon are summed up by an obstruction call in the final minute.

Cronulla's Fa'amanu Brown lands awkwardly from a tackle and is having his leg looked at by the trainers.

Robinson with a great run straight up the middle of the park. Can the Sharks get over the line and set up a grand stand finish?

Lee is tackled into touch on the left-hand side, but it matters little for the Raiders. There are just five minutes left on the clock as Matt Prior spills the ball for the Sharks for the second time in a matter of minutes.

Croker converts and the Raiders look like winners, leading 22-12 with nine minutes left on the clock.

It didn't take long for Canberra to hit straight back. A piercing kick is perfectly placed for Milford to split the defence and crash over the line. That was nicely worked by the Raiders.

Gordon converts and we have a ball game. Cronulla trail 16-12, with just over 12 minutes remaining on the clock.

The Sharks are back in it! It was hard work, but a nice attacking play ends with Michael Lichaa finding Tim Robinson and he scores next to the post. 16-10 Raiders, Cronulla kick to come.

Canberra are penalised for a strip as the Sharks inch out of their own red zone.

For the second time today, Lee drops the pill with the tryline at his mercy. The Sharks are still in it, but only just. They'd want to score next.

Things are falling apart now for the Sharkies. Wright is placed on report for lifting Croker in a dangerous tackle.

Tough minute for Holmes, with the teenager picked up and carried back into his in-goal area. More pressure being applied here by the Raiders.

Trouble for Cronulla as the Raiders cross for their third try. It's all too easy down the left side before Milford shows too much pace for Holmes and crosses for his 10th try of the season.

Some brilliant play from the Sharks is all undone by Wright, who spills the ball with the tryline beckoning. That sound you just heard was an enormous groan from the home fans.

With his six points so far today, Croker has passed Mal Meninga for third place on the Raiders' all-time scoring list.

Croker is unable to add the extras, but it's still Canberra establishing a 10-6 lead after 53 minutes. Cronulla needs to respond here.

And it's quickly back-to-back tries for the visiting side and it's all too easy. Wighton makes a great run and is held up just short of the line. His short ball finds Jarrod Croker in plenty of space and he scoots over untouched.

Croker converts and we're all tied up at 6-6, nearly 10 minutes into the second half.

Milford seems to mis-time his kick, but it sits up perfectly for Matt McIlwrick, who plants the ball down. The Raiders on the board! Game on.

Back-to-back penalties eases the pressure on the Raiders, who had been camped deep in their own half. Can they get on the board early in the second half?

Normal service resumes with the Raiders quickly penalised for being offside. Cronulla with the first chance at points here, great field position.

And here come the teams for the second half. I'm going to go out on a limb and predict their will be tries, plural, in this second half. Surely both sides just have to chance their arms?

Cronulla at least completed 17 of their 21 sets. For the Raiders, it was just 13 of 20.

Canberra enjoyed far better field position over the course of the opening 40 minutes, but the Sharks' kicking game was superior. The home side gained 348 kicking metres in that half to just 186 for the Raiders.

There were no less than 14 errors in that first half, eight of them coming from the Raiders.

Stand-in skipper McCrone's dreadful first half was summed up when he was replaced by Mitch Cornish before the half-time whistle.

The Sharks are unable to capitalise, but considering how depleted their line-up is, coach James Shepherd would have to be happy with a 6-0 lead at the break.

Now Wighton gives the home side a chance for more points. He spills the easiest of balls with no one within a country mile. Line drop-out coming up, 50 seconds remaining.

Gordon adds the extras and, mercifully, the Sharks get the scoreboard moving. So it's 6-0 Cronulla with two minutes left in the half.

We have some points! Blake Ayshford is put into a huge gap. His inside ball comes off McCrone, but Feki is able to scoop it up and cross the line. Huzzah! Sharks 4-0, kick to come.

Brad Walter also reports from the ground that Sharks fans are calling for a field goal. Yep.

For the second time in this half, McCrone tries a cut-out ball, which instead cannons off an unsuspecting teammate. Paul Vaughan was in the way.

The Raiders have undoubtedly had the best field position and attacking opportunities, but it hasn't led to points so far.

If anyone was curious about why these clubs are positioned where they are this season, they need only watch the first 30 minutes of this match. It remains 0-0.

This time Canberra decides to run the ball, spreading it to the left, with Edrick Lee on the end of it in space. But he can't control the ball and that's another opportunity missed by the visitors. Can Cronulla make them pay?

Grubber kicks are the weapon of choice for the Raiders, with Milford's short kick cleaned up by Valentine Holmes, who is pinned in goal.

The attacking struggles of both sides are blatantly on display here. It's the Raiders with the best opportunities so far, but neither side has a point to show for it after 22 minutes.

Wighton makes a superb break from virtually his own tryline, but some copybook cover defence from Cronulla counterpart Michael Gordon stops him in his tracks just near halfway.

This time it's Josh McCrone with the kick and this one is better directed, with Feki taking it over his in-goal line. Canberra are dominating possession right now.

Anthony Milford tries to get a little grubber kick in behind the Cronulla defence, but the Sharks knock the ball on. The error count is skyrocketing.

Sosaia Feki is looking dangerous for the Sharks, making some good metres from deep in his own half.

Dane Tilse crashes over the line for the Raiders, but he is held up by three Sharks on tackle No.2.

Here is an opportunity for the visitors, who get a penalty just inside the Cronulla half. What can they do with this?

Both sides are lacking a little creativity with ball in hand. Ten minutes in and there is no score.

The Sharks with the best chance of scoring so far, with Jonathan Wright tackled just short of the line and attempting to get the offload away. But he only manages to knock the ball on as the Raiders survive.

Errors aplenty early on between the competition's cellar dwellers. This time it's the Raiders kicking the ball out on the full.

Some neat attacking play down the left wing ends up with another Sharks penalty as they look to get off to a strong start. But that is immediately undone by a Matt Prior knock-on.

Following Canberra's initial set of six, the Sharks get hold of possession deep in their own half. But a penalty gives them some early field position.

And we are underway, with the Sharks kicking off.

There have been a raft of changes since the ASADA findings came out this week, with Sharks skipper Paul Gallen and Anthony Tupou among those making way from the original selected line-up.

It's a similar story for Ricky Stuart's embattled Raiders, who are in 15th place, ahead of Cronulla only on for and against.

Once again the ASADA scandal has dominated everything Sharks-related this week, but they will need to put all of that to one side as they attempt to avoid the wooden spoon.

CRONULLA SHARKS v CANBERRA RAIDERS at Remondis Stadium, Sunday 2.00pm

Head to Head: Sharks 33 Raiders 28

Last clash: Round 26, 2013 - Sharks 38 bt Raiders 18 at GIO Stadium

Michael Chammas writes: The battle to avoid the wooden spoon. Cronulla will be playing with plenty of emotion given the ASADA findings. It could just spark them to victory against former coach Ricky Stuart.

    Tip: Sharks by 10

AAP writes: Cronulla’s players will be relieved to take out their frustrations over the ASADA affair against the Raiders or distracted by the off-field dramas sweeping through their ranks. Given the Sharks have been handling this for more than a year, you think they should be well practised at keeping their attention on the football, though the actual issuing of show-cause notices might be different to just being under investigation. Ricky Stuart will hope his old club aren’t fully focused and the Raiders can steal a win to avoid the ignominy of back-to-back wooden spoons for their coach.

Key: The start. If the Raiders get off to a flyer, it’s hard to see the Sharks being bothered about the game given their other issues.

SHARKS: Michael Gordon, Sosaia Feki, Jonathan Wright, Ricky Leutele, Valentine Holmes, Fa'amanu Brown, Jeff Robson, Tim Robinson, Michael Lichaa, Matt Prior, Chris Heighington, Anthony Tupou, Paul Gallen (capt).
