FULLTIME: And that's it folks. The Bulldogs score their highest win over the injury-hit Sharks. That, ladies and gents, was a shellacking.

The men from Cronulla were far better in the second half, and prevented further embarrassment, but will still be going home hurting.

Without Carney pulling the strings, the Sharks looked clueless around the ruck, and could not make a mark on the scoreboard until the 80th minute.

An easy hit-out for the Dogs, who impressed through Reynolds, Hodkinson and the magnificent combination of Graham and Ennis.

We'll have expert reports and analysis from the game online shortly, with all the wash-up from tonight's paddling, plus video highlights from the game.

TRY: Who said the Sharks were pointless? They are in by the right hand corner flag through Jonathan Wright seconds before the siren. They went coast-to-coast, and Gordon finds the winger with a nice long pass. The Dogs are not happy they let one in. Michael Gordon will have his first attempt at goal. And it hooks away in ugly fashion. BULLDOGS 42 SHARKS 4

Josh Jackson takes a knee to the head, but is given the all clear to finish the last minute.

Manumalealii kicks on the fifth, and Stanley is held behind his tryline. The Sharks will have one more set before the siren.

Penani Manumalealii INTERCEPTS! .. .and is made to look pretty slow by the backtracking defence. He makes 15 metres off the head-start and is pulled back.

No dice. Frank Pritchard drops on the loose ball, the stadium quakes, and the Dogs come away. The Sharks look like they are going home embarrassingly empty-handed.

Sam Tagataese almost wriggles through to spark a Hollywood comeback #theresstilltime. The Dogs pinch back, knock on and give Cronulla another chance for points. Five to go here, BULLDOGS 42 SHARKS 0

The Sharks toil away, kick on the fifth and the ball goes dead. The Dogs race away through Reynolds, who takes the quick kick. He kicks long, Josh Morris chases, hacks ahead and touches down. He is offside though, and we'll come all the way back after the video ref deliberates.

Trent Hodkinson lines it up, and remains perfect - 7/7. BULLDOGS 42 SHARKS 0

TRY: Josh Morris adds to the pain for the Sharks.  Ennis gives the ball left to Hodkinson, ignoring Josh Reynolds, and Josh Morris eases over the line. Simple stuff. Such a contrast to the Sharks' struggles at the other end. BULLDOGS 40 SHARKS 0 KTC

A bomb bounces dangerously in goal, and Ricky Leutele falls agonisingly short. The ball bobbles dead. No luck for the Sharks tonight.

So no joy on the scoreboard for the Sharks as yet, but their completion rate is right up - only one dropped set so far since the restart.

Chance for the Sharks there. Jonathan Wright almost gets onto the end of an in-goa grubber from Gordon, but Perrett covers well. Line dropout.

Matt Prior with a high shot on Perrett. On report. Trouble in his future.

Ouch. Josh Reynolds and Trent Hodkinson kiss coconuts, and Josh Reynolds comes off worse. They came in on opposite sides for a tackle and bonk their noggins. They are both ok to continue.

Reynolds feeds the T-Rex, a metre out to the right, but the Sharks cover in numbers and hold him up. Reynolds attempts a chip to nobody, and it's a let off. He makes up for it with a big hit on Jonathan Wright.

Those repeat sets where the Sharks came up empty handed are taking their toll, with the Sharks going up the other end quickly, and with devastating consequences. There is more pain coming for the men from the Shire.

Hodkinson adds the extras, and it's BULLDOGS 36 SHARKS 0. That's 6/6 tonight - with three tough angles. Metronomic.

TRY: The video ref overturns the on-field decision, and that's the first NRL try for the young winger. BULLDOGS 34 SHARKS 0

The Dogs fling it wide right, Feki makes a low tackle on Thompson, who wriggles and reaches for the line, and bounces it on the paint. It looks good, but it's gone to the video. Ref says no try, we'll see.....

Pritchard drops it backwards, Ennis regathers, and Finucane goes into contact. Big pressure building.

And the Sharks fire up. They catch Sosaia Feki in a swarm behind his tryline, and will receive the dropout. It's a short one from Holdsworth, Graham regathers - and knocks on as he is tackled to the ground! Great move, horrible backfire.

And the Dogs hold out again. Stubborn defence. This will be some effort if they keep the Sharks pointless.

So, a better spell for the Sharks here, who have had a bunch of back-to-back sets. The 50 up may not be on the cards - they have been much more dogged this half.

Ayshford, then Lichaa come close, but Ennis and Graham are having none of it. The Sharks can't make it count - they are looking clueless around the play the ball, and the Dogs will have a line dropout.

David Fifita takes the ball about five out at speed, but is wrapped up in a vice-like tackle from the Bulldogs defence. Strong. And we'll have another six after the Dogs are pinged again!

Bulldogs penalised, so the Sharks have six more. They have to score here.

Now Perrett spills a high ball under pressure, and it's another set play to the Sharks, in the danger area.

The Dogs go from behind their line off the kickoff return up to the 40m line, but the no-look ball from Perrett to Thompson goes loose. Scrum Sharks.

TRY: And it's all too easy at the other end, as Trent Hodkinson goes over by the left hand post after the Dogs made free yards on a pen. Tony Williams shows the good side of his game, making the initial crack before feeding Hodkinson. The Bulldog barges through the attempted tackle of Graham and Gordon, and dots down on the line. The video confirms the try, and the conversion is a formality. BULLDOGS 30 SHARKS 0

Tupou Sopoaga makes a decent dent in the midfield, and the Sharks go left through Fifita. The pass on the last tackle is ordinary, and the ball is knocked on down by Sosaia Feki's ankles just as the Sharks looked like making an impression. They could easily go scoreless here.

Corey Thompson won't like watching that one. He fields a low kick 20m out, takes his eye off it and knocks on. Nightmare.

Sosaia Feki does well to skip out of a rush on the fifth tackle, but kicks tamely to Gordon in front of the posts, who runs it out under no pressure. The Dogs make 60m with no sweat, but the Sharks are equal to the bomb, and will make the long trek back into scoreboard territory.

Aaand we're off again. The impressive O'Hanlon takes the first hit up of the half. It's a decent 44m gain, before Hodkinson kicks to the 30m line. The Sharks have completed 10/15 sets tonight. Not good enough by any measure.

The halves have been the difference in this match. While Reynolds and Hodkinson have capitalised on their team's good ball opportunities, the Sharks have lacked the polish at the end of their sets.

The Bulldogs are set for a big win here.

HALFTIME: So, we go into the break with the Bulldogs dominating the Sharks in every area of the pitch. It's 24-0, but could easily be half as much again, with the Dogs wasting several chances in the early exchanges. If the home side are clinical in the second half, this could be brutal for Sharks fans. The half-century is knocking here.

The Sharks look clueless in attack, and after a decent start under pressure, they spent the last 20 minutes being led by their noses in defence, with Josh Reynolds look every bit the superstar for the Dogs. Cronulla are badly missing the likes of Gallen, Carney and Fifita - but what team could cope with losing three of that calibre? Join us shortly for the second half.

Better defence from Cronulla there, as Wade Graham races out of the line to wrap up josh Reynolds in front of the posts as the Bulldogs threatened. And there's the first-half siren.

Michael Gordon gathers Trent Hodkinson's kick, and is carried seven metres backwards over his line by Morris and Ennis, and that'll be a line dropout. One more chance for the half.

James Graham is having a standout game here tonight, this one is exactly his sort of game.

TRY: Chase Stanley is in again. It's a Nines move as the Bulldogs make it up as they go along. The Dogs switch direction three times, before Hodkinson goes lateral, draws the defender and gives the ball to Stanley in acres of space. His second makes it 22-0. Hodkinson adds the extras, and it's getting ugly. BULLDOGS 24 SHARKS 0i

Perrett sweeps around on the extra man move, but the pass from Reynolds is too short. Penani Manumalealii almost picks it up off his laces, but can't gather. There was space ahead. A lesser-seen chance for the Sharks goes begging.

Sopoaga turns the ball over, and the Bulldogs come away from their line. Lots of quick sets here, with plenty of ordinary turnover. Some tired legs out there, with a few Sharks looking at the clock.

David Fifita's first touch in the NRL is a good one, the big man showing good leg strength to make some yards after the initial contact.

So, 10 minutes to go until halftime, and the scoreboard tells a pretty accurate story. The Sharks get a rare penalty - their second of the game - and will attack from 30m out.

TRY: Superb one from Chase Stanley. Josh Reynolds goes lateral, before popping the ball to Chase Stanley, offloading around the corner as he was hit from both sides. All Stanley has to do is catch the ball and fall over. The Sharks just let Reynolds run across half the pitch there, without attempting to hit him. Poor defence. He didn't even have to throw a dummy. Hodkinson converts. BULLDOGS 18 SHARKS 0

Matt Prior hits the ball up at speed for the Sharks. He's looked tasty since coming on. The Sharks are still in this - just - but chiefly because the Bulldogs are hurting themselves with silly errors.

And now Williams loses the ball on the fifth - after a good start, T-Rex is up to his old tricks.

Heartbreaker for the Sharks as Michael Gordon loses the ball on the 40m line. Another turnover. More trouble for the Sharks defence ahead.

The Dogs make 41 on their first set, and Ennis kicks deep towards Sosaia Feki.

TRY: The Sharks get the luck of the bounce after a messy second man play on the fifth. Ennis grubbers straight at Michael Gordon, and the ball bounces horribly over the Sharks fullback. Ennis falls on the loose ball under the posts. An easy 2 for Hodkinson, and now the Bulldogs are looking more comfortable on the scoreboard. BULLDOGS 12 SHARKS 0

Excellent short passing sees James Graham free Patrick O'Hanlon, who finds Josh Reynolds. He grubbers, but the Sharks cover in-goal. The Bulldogs will receive the dropout and come again.

John Morris puts in a lovely chip to the East coast in-goal. It's a little too high though, and Jonathan Wright can't take it, falling into touch under the challenge of Mitch Brown. We go upstairs for a decision, but that was one of the most obvious ones you'll see. No try.

Sosaia Feki finds some rare space, steps inside the covering Perrett, but loses his footing. Better from the Sharks. They retain, and will go right.

SMASHED. Chase Stanley is put in trouble by Josh Reynolds. Wade Graham lines him up and absolutely destroys him.

Stanley makes a decent break down the right, but his pass inside is wayward. Reynolds toes it on, but the defence scrambles well. Wasteful stuff again from the Bulldogs, who are not making their dominance count on the scoreboard.

They get away with it though, as Hodkinson is held up over the line. On the next, the ball spills out of Tony William's breadbasket, and Sharks fans breathe again. If T-Rex catches that, he is one-on-one and odds on for the four pointer.

The Sharks will do well to keep the Bulldogs out here. Again they knock on under pressure, and the Bulldogs get six more. Trouble for the visitors. The Dogs wraparound and go left.

Dale Finucane gets hit in a high one. The Bulldogs get the penalty and Bryce Gibbs goes on report.

More pressure for the Sharks here, who will feed the scrum on their own 10 after another good set from the Bulldogs. Gibbs charges up the middle, and the Sharks get away with one as Tagatese tries a Hollywood offload to nobody. Hodkinson almost picks up the fumble, but the Sharks regather. They make some easy metres, but get into trouble on the fifth, hesitating with the kick and putting themselves under all sorts of pressure. The ball is eventually hacked into touch for a Dogs scrum 10.

Super conversion from Hodkinson far out on the left touchline. BULLDOGS 6 SHARKS 0

TRY: Trent Hodkinson puts a crossfield chip to the left. Wright and Brown contest it, and the Bulldogs man wins the battle. It comes back to Frank Pritchard, who scores an easy one in the corner. BULLDOGS 4 SHARKS 0 KTC

Arona gives up a silly pen, and the Bulldogs get another gift. They go right, Tony Williams takes the ball 10 out from a Reynolds feed, and he carries half the defence over the tryline. He is held up, so we'll go back.

OOF. Tinirau Arona gets caught in a Zangief-esque bodyslam from Pritchard after some quick Shark hands down the right. The set comes to nothing, but some good signs from the Sharks there, who worked the ball across the park very quickly and very tidily there.

And it's wasted. The Dogs go wide on the fifth, Perrett pops to Stanley, and he is tackled about five short. Very soft turnover there - did they lose count of the tackles? Let-off for the Sharks there.

A decent first set from the Sharks, but they blow it on the kick, with a whole herd of Sharks straying offside. Corey Thompson fields the ball acrobatically, and the Dogs can peg the Sharks all the way back. Danger for the visitors here.

Aaaaand we're off. Chase Stanley gets us underway, the Bulldogs attacking left to right.

Michael Carayannis: I'm really looking forward to seeing Cronulla's three debutants play. There's been plenty of hype surrounding local product Michael Lichaaa for some time now and he'll get the chance to impress against the side he'll most likely join next year.

Enthusiasm should be the only thing that can defeat the Bulldogs. With all the Sharks out – I'm sticking to my tip earlier this week and expecting a big Bulldogs win.

G'day and welcome to LeagueHQ's live coverage of the Monday night clash from Sydney. It's a mild early evening at ANZ, perfect conditions for rugby league. With the Sharks missing key players, it could be a tough night for the men from Cronulla. Kick-off is imminent.

    ANZ Stadium, Monday 7pm (AEDT)

Last meeting: Bulldogs 24 bt Sharks 8 at Bluetongue Stadium, round 7, 2013

    Referees: Matt Cecchin, Alan Shortall

    TV: Live, FoxSports 1

    Betfair: Bulldogs $1.40, Sharks $3.40

    Ladbrokes: Bulldogs $1.40, Sharks $3

Michael Chammas writes: The Sharks will be without Andrew Fifita (suspended) and skipper Paul Gallen (ankle injury), but should welcome back Todd Carney. His return is a huge boost for the Sharks, but it might not be enough to see them collect their first win of the season. The Bulldogs won't make the finals without a new fullback, but they have the team needed to overcome a severely understrength Cronulla outfit.

    Tip: Bulldogs by 8

AAP writes:Things have gone from bad to worse for the Sharks, who not only still have the supplement saga hanging over their heads, but have lost Paul Gallen for six weeks after an ankle injury suffered in their loss to the Titans. Meanwhile Test prop Andrew Fifita has not only just announced he'll be switching clubs to their upcoming opponents next year, but is out for two weeks after taking an early guilty plea for a shoulder charge. Oh, not to mention Todd Carney and Beau Ryan could be set for another week on the sidelines. Things are a little bit more steady over at the Bulldogs, who have named an unchanged line-up despite last week's 18-12 loss to the Broncos.

Key: Attack was a problem for both outfits in their respective round one matches. If Canterbury's halves can provide quality ball for Josh Morris out wide, the Bulldogs should have too much strike power.

BULLDOGS: Sam Perrett, Mitch Brown, Josh Morris, Chase Stanley, Corey Thompson, Josh Reynolds, Trent Hodkinson, Aiden Tolman, Michael Ennis (capt), James Graham, Frank Pritchard (capt), Tony Williams, Dale Finucane. Interchange: Josh Jackson, Pat O’Hanlon, Tim Browne, David Klemmer, Moses Mbye (one to be omitted).

SHARKS: Michael Gordon, Sosaia Feki, Blake Ayshford, Ricky Leutele, Jonathan Wright, Todd Carney, Daniel Holdsworth, Andrew Fifita, John Morris, Bryce Gibbs, Matt Prior, Wade Graham (capt), Tinirau Arona. Interchange: Isaac De Gois, Sam Tagataese, Tupou Sopoaga, Siosaia Vave, Chris Heighington (one to be omitted).
