With Johnathan Thurston at his masterly best, the Cowboys were too strong for a disjointed and error-prone Bulldogs side. The Queenslanders were more inventive in attack - take a bow JT, Robert Lui and Michael Morgan - and solid throughout in defence. The Dogs couldn't get their attack rolling - they are really missing Reynolds - but they will have to cut out the silly penalties if they're to get back on the winner's list. This was the Cowboys' second Sydney win in a row - a rarity for them - and Paul Green will be feeling his side is growing in character and resilience every week. A massive two points for North Queensland.

    Bulldogs 12 Cowboys 20

    79th minute:

Kasiano concedes a stupid penalty 30m out for lingering too long in the tackle. Oh dear. Thurston does the honours.

    Bulldogs 12 Cowboys 20

    77th minute:

Josh Jackson has been one of the Bulldogs' best - he's been everywhere tonight.

    Bulldogs 12 Cowboys 18

    76th minute:

Schoolboy error Reni Maitua - losing the ball in the play the ball in the Cows' 20m zone. What a let-off.

    Bulldogs 12 Cowboys 18

    75th minute:

Kasiano is getting a second wind: his road kill is everywhere as he tries to inspire a Berries victory.

    Bulldogs 12 Cowboys 18

    73rd minute:

Huge bomb from Hodkinson excellently taken by Morgan as Ennis mashes him in the in-goal area.

    Bulldogs 12 Cowboys 18

    70th minute:

Bulldogs look tired. Hodkinson grubbered on the sixth but Lui scooped up the pill and ran into open space for 30m.

    Bulldogs 12 Cowboys 18

    67th minute:

Sam Perrett crunched in his own-goal area fielding a magical long-distance kick by Michael Morgan. Cows get the ball back from the dropout.

    Bulldogs 12 Cowboys 18

    65th minute:

Doggies go close. Lloyd Perrett barged over but Robert Lui kept himself underneath the big fella and the ball failed to graze the turf.

    Bulldogs 12 Cowboys 18

    63rd minute:

On a kick-return Michael Morgan slipped and lost the ball in goal, resulting in a dropout. That was very unlucky - the greasy conditions were to blame.

    Bulldogs 12 Cowboys 18

    60th minute:

Trent Hodkinson hit Josh Jackson on the chest with a well-timed short pass that put the Dogs' No.11 into the gap just 5m out. Hodkinson converts. Dogs rallying.

    Bulldogs 12 Cowboys 18

    57th minute:

A promising Bulldogs attack breaks down as Jackson throws a one-handed pass to Winterstein.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 18

    55th minute:

Mbye triggers a repeat six with a smart grubber on the run. Dogs to attack from the dropout.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 18

    52nd minute:

The Bulldogs attack but Hodkinson fires a pass... into touch.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 18

    49th minute:

Lafai spills the pill as he was making inroads into Cowboys territory. Another costly Dogs error.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 18

    48th minute:

Thurston threw the ball across the chests of his support players to Winterstein who had his own private acreage in which to score. Where were the Doggies on the left side of the ruck? Thurston converts.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 18

    47th minute:

Tony Williams redeems himself with a bulldozing run trampling half a dozen Cowboys in the process before releasing to Ennis. Great stuff, T Rex.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 12

    44th minute:

The Cows are making easy metres up the Dogs' guts.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 12

    42nd minute:

Taumololo sets the tone for the Cowboys in the second half carrying half the Canterbury side with him with over a bullocking 30m run.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 12

The Johnathan Thurston-inspired Cowboys are ahead of the Bulldogs by a converted try at half time. The Queenslanders have looked better in attack, thanks to smart efforts from JT, fullback Michael Morgan and winger Matt Wright. They have lost James Tamou with a  neck injury, but they're showing a truckload more enthusiasm than the Dogs. Canterbury's halves combination isn't working - Tony T Rex Williams has looked amateurish at times - and they have given away a number of cheap penalties. But the deficit is only six points, and with a trademark Des Hasler half-time rev, they should come out firing in the second stanza.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 12

    39th minute:

Williams threw a no-look Hail Mary pass but the siren sounds as the Bulldogs' attack breaks down.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 12

    36th minute:

Penalty to the Cows: James Graham spent what seemed like decades slowing down the play-the-ball. Thurston elects to take the two and duly obliges.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 12

    35th minute:

Sam Perrett's kick-returns have made heaps of metres tonight.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 10

    33rd minute:

The Bulldogs mount some pressure but T Rex's grubber kick is a shocker and the Cowboys surge upfield.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 10

    30th minute:

The Cowboys have had most of the possession in the last 10 minutes and it's telling on the Bulldogs' defence.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 10

    27th minute:

Not good news for James Tamou - he's off to the hospital for scans on his neck.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 10

    26th minute:

JT magic. Thurston chip-kicked across field and the ball bounced straight into the chest of Wright who strode in with a huge smile on his dial. Thurston converts from the sideline.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 10

    25th minute:

That was Michael Morgan's eighth try assist in the past six games. He's been awesome in Lachlan Coote's absence.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 4

    23rd minute:

A Michael Morgan, Matt-Gidley-style flick pass caught out the Bulldogs' left-edge defence and found Wright at pace. Great ball from Morgan. Thurston hooks the conversion across the face of the goal.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 4

    22nd minute:

Funny stuff: Winterstein accidentally backs into ball-running teammate Morgan and floors him.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 0

    20th minute:

The Cowboys have only completed three sets so far. The Doggies have dominated possession: 65% to 35%

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 0

    19th minute:

Doggies go close. Lafai skipped on the outside of Moga and groped for the line but the ball danced away inches short.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 0

    17th minute:

Tamou is on his back injured, and now he's being guided off the field.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 0

    15th minute:

Mini stink. Michael Ennis and Ashton Sims exchange unpleasantries before the ref intervenes. Penalty Dogs.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 0

    14th minute:

Berries over the stripe. Great ball movement from Perrett across the left side to Mitch Brown for what looked like an easy catch and pass try. Hodkinson converts.

    Bulldogs 6 Cowboys 0

    12th minute:

A rib-rattling tackle from Kasiano forced Kostjaysin to cough up the pill and put the Bulldogs on the attack.

    Bulldogs 0 Cowboys 0

    10th minute:

Great work form Sam Perrett to foil Wright as he dove low and hard for the line.

    Bulldogs 0 Cowboys 0

    9th minute:

T Rex throws a turf-bound pass to end a promising Bulldogs attack.

    Bulldogs 0 Cowboys 0

    7th minute:

Sam Perrett is making good metres from the back, as the Dogs score a penalty for a ruck infringement. They attack 35m out.

    Bulldogs 0 Cowboys 0

    6th minute:

Kasiano is at his Beetsonesque best palming off Sims and finding Ennis with a neat pass.

    Bulldogs 0 Cowboys 0

    4th minute:

Cowboys' first attacking foray ends with a great pass from Michael Morgan... to the touch judge.

    Bulldogs 0 Cowboys 0

    2nd minute:

Bone-crunching tackles from both sides as they complete their first sets.

    Bulldogs 0 Cowboys 0

It rained in Sydney this morning so ANZ Stadium may be a little heavy for tonight's clash between the Bulldogs and the Cowboys. The Cowboys are on the edge of the eight - a win will see them leapfrog the Broncos into eighth position on the ladder, while the Bulldogs will overtake the Panthers if they get the chocolates. North Queensland overcame their Sydney-itis to beat the Sharks at Remondis last week for a rare away victory. But the Bulldogs were off form: they copped a flogging from the Tigers. Both teams have a lot to lose, so expect a hard-fought encounter.

Late mail from the Bulldogs' website:

Bulldogs Coach Des Hasler has finalised his side for the match against the Cowboys tonight at ANZ Stadium.

Kick-off will be at 7.30pm with coverage LIVE on FOX Sports. You can also follow @NRL_Bulldogs on Twitter for live updates.

    The side is as follows:

    23. Sam Perrett

    2. Corey Thompson

    6. Moses Mbye

    4. Tim Lafai

    1. Mitch Brown

    12. Tony Williams

    7. Trent Hodkinson

    8. Sam Kasiano

    9. Michael Ennis ©

    10. James Graham

    11. Josh Jackson

    15. Dale Finucane

    17. Lloyd Perrett

    21. Harlan Alaalatoa

    Betfair: Bulldogs $1.65, Cowboys $2.46

AAP writes:  North Queensland may have ended their season-long wait for a win on the road last weekend at Cronulla but a trip to ANZ Stadium is probably the last one the Cowboys want to make right now. Winless at the venue since 2006, the Cowboys have lost nine straight to the Bulldogs and South Sydney on their trips to Sydney. That appears unlikely to change this time around with the Bulldogs sure to be revved up following their abysmal display against Wests Tigers last weekend. Cowboys coach Paul Green has stuck with the same team which beat the Sharks while the Bulldogs welcome back Origin representative Josh Morris. Young half Moses Mbye will don the No.6 jersey for the Dogs.

Key: The Dogs’ forward pack, so dominant in 2014, failed to fire against the Tigers. Expect them to bounce back hard in a tough night for the Cowboys.

    Tip: Canterbury

BULLDOGS: Mitch Brown, Corey Thompson, Josh Morris, Tim Lafai, Drury Low, Moses Mbye, Trent Hodkinson, Sam Kasiano, Michael Ennis (capt), James Graham, Josh Jackson, Tony Williams, Greg Eastwood. Interchange: Reni Maitua, Dale Finucane, Pat O’Hanlon, Lloyd Perrett, Damien Cook (one to be omitted).

COWBOYS: Michael Morgan, Matthew Wright, Tautau Moga, Kane Linnett, Antonio Winterstein, Robert Lui, Johnathan Thurston (capt), Ashton Sims, Rory Kostjasyn, James Tamou, Tariq Sims, Jason Taumalolo, Glenn Hall. Interchange: Ray Thompson, Scott Bolton, John Asiata, Sam Hoare.
