Cronulla Sharks v Sydney Roosters

s

The Roosters have won their first match in four games, with a gritty 24-18 win over the Sharks. Boyd Cordner's destructive running and Shaun Kenny-Dowall's fleet-footed attacking game stood out for the Tricolours, but in the end, Mitchell Pearce's cool kicking got them home. For the Sharks, returning skipper Paul Gallen was inspirational and Wade Graham put in a powerful performance up front. Cronulla will feel gutted - they kept up with the Premiers until the last minutes - but in the end, the Roosters deserved to take home the two points. The crowd was 12,163.

Powerhouse running from Kenny-Dowall was let down by a terrible pass which found Cronulla's Jonathan Wright, who, from broken play jinked and jagged 40m towards the Roosters' line. Both teams are still going hard. Ferocious stuff.

The Gallen factor. How long can the Sharks' inspirational captain keep it up. The human battering ram has kept the black, white and blue in the game with blockbusting runs and wall-like defence. The Sharks are a different team with him on the pitch - but Boyd Cordner, SBW and Tuivasa-Shek are threatening whenever they have the ball and Cronulla will have to be at their best to hold them out. Cordner is the complete running forward; if he gets more involved, the Roosters will win and win well. The second half will be a corker. Back in five.

Sharks 6 Roosters 12

36th minute:

Cronulla's defence is holding out, but there's a feeling that if the Tricolours score again the flood gates could happen.

Sharks 6 Roosters 12

33rd minute:

Roosters fight back. Cordner, SBW and Tuivasa-Sheck are electric at the moment. Four and five Sharks are required to stick them on their backsides, which means there are holes in the rest of the Cronulla line.

30th minute:

Sharks enjoying a period of dominance as Gallen's ferocious charges put the Roosters on the back foot.

26th minute:

Sharks go close. Wright intercepted the ball 10m from his own line but didn't have the pace, or it seemed, the confidence, to outrun the Roosters' defence - but he did set up an attack 20m out from the Triclours line, which culminated in an ineffective Robson grubber.
