Live: Raiders vs Dragons
Fulltime: And that's it! Travis Waddell dives on Jamie Soward's chip kick and the Raiders extend their hoodoo over the Dragons. Reece Robinson was sensational with a hat-trick, while Sam Williams showed great maturity in his return from NSW Cup. Mitch Rein scored a double for the Dragons, but they'll go back to Wollongong with their top eight hopes in tatters. Raiders 22-18
78min: Raiders try - Reece Robinson (3). And the hoodoo continues! Raiders fans go crazy as Robinson bags his third to put the home side back in front. A great line run by Joel Thompson gives Williams room to find Reece Lightning in a gaping hole. Croker nails the conversion. Raiders 22-18.
74min: Dragons skipper Ben Hornby is penalised for holding down the play the ball, giving Jarrod Croker a chance to level the scores. Croker's kick is wayward, going across the face of goal.
68min: Dragons try - Mitch Rein (2). The crafty hooker takes it upon himself to prove there's no such thing as a hoodoo. Rein ducks underneath Reece Robinson and Mark Nicholls to burrow his way under the posts. Soward slots it over to give the Dragons the lead for the first time. Dragons 18-16.
65min: The crowd announced at 10,462, should all get free tickets for braving the freezing temperatures.
62min: A sensational try-saving tackle from Sandor Earl, the former Penrith Panther rushing in off his wing to wrap up Matt Cooper in a ball and all tackle.
58min: Joel Thompson dishes out an offload but only finds a Dragons player. Still nothing in it with 20 minutes to go.
57min: Another fantastic take under the high ball from Jason Nightengale. Didn't worry about a flying Sandor Earl and got past Blake Ferguson to put the Dragons on the front foot.
55min: Uncomplicated footy from the Dragons. Soward kicks to the sideline and forces the big Raiders back to the other end of the ground.
52min: Dragons try - Mitch Rein. Not to say I told you so but ... I told you so. Rein deceives Learoyd-Lahrs with a dummy and ducks under the big man to score close to the posts. Soward's conversion makes it a four-point game. Raiders 16-12
50min: Mitch Rein offering the Dragons plenty out of dummy-half. A lively spark. The Dragons drop the ball close to the Raiders line. But Learoyd-Lahrs spills it 40m out for the Dragons to have another go.
48min: Jamie Soward delivers a 40/20 to maybe change the momemtum and puts the Dragons on the attack.
47min: Dragons winger Daniel Vidot having a nightmare, has the ball stolen again after taking a bomb. But the Dragons are let off the hook when McIlwrick loses the ball 5m out.
45min: Ferguson rumbles it up despite looking like the Elephant Man with a bandage wrapped around his nose. The Raiders get a penalty and are again on the attack.
42min: A clash of heads between Jason Nightengale and Blake Ferguson. The referee asks, ''why would you play the game?'' Can't fault the toughness of these guys. Not as dynamic as the infamous clash between 'Horse' Weyman and Cannonball Miller but blood pouring from both players.
Second half: Here we go for the second half - Can the Raiders hold on or will the Dragons win in Canberra for the first time since 2000?
Halftime: A few halftime stats - Dragons hooker Dean Young has made 30 tackles already. In no surprise, Shaun Fensom leading the Raiders with 18. The Raiders hold sway in possession 60 per cent to 40. And they have also completed an incredible 95 per cent of their sets. The Dragons aren't far behind with 87 per cent.
Halftime: The Canberra Raiders lead the Dragons 16-6 and on their way to extending the famed Canberra hoodoo. Raiders fullback Reece Robinson superb with a double and Edrick Lee has the other try for the hosts. Bronx Goodwin has the only try for the Dragons.
40min: Raiders try - Reece Robinson. And it's Robinson again, streaking down the field to back up a great bust from Joel Thompson. Hand injury? What hand injury. Matt McIlwrick and Sam Williams influential in the lead up. A bit of doubt with Edrick Lee maybe impeding Ben Hornby to tackle Robinson, but the video ref rules that Vidot pushed Lee into Hornby. Croker misses to the right. Raiders 16-6
37min: Raiders try - Reece Robinson. Where has this guy come from! Wow, wonderful step from the makeshift fullback followed by a display of strength to fend off Jake Marketo and Dan Hunt to thump the ball over the line. Raiders fans happy to know he's signed until 2014. Croker converts. Raiders 12-6
35min: Josh Miller on for the Dragons in his first game against the Raiders after playing more than 100 games for the Green Machine. Matt McIlwrick also on for the Raiders to replace hooker Travis Waddell.
34min: Jarrod Croker is the thief in the night, stealing the ball from former teammate Daniel Vidot to give the Raiders a great chance 10m out. Josh Papalii held up over the line, great effort Matt Cooper to stop the hulking Kiwi. McCrone's grubber kick is rushed over by the Dragons, drop-out Dragons.
32min: Handy last tackle play but Blake Ferguson's up to the task, the Raiders centre reading Nathan Fien's grubber kick and getting the home side out of trouble.
30min: Here come the Dragons. The boys from the Gong are building pressure on the Raiders and will get a second straight crack at the line.
27min: The Dragons are grinding their way back into the contest. Have had only 35 per cent possession, but would take heart from the fact the scores are level.
24min: Dragons try - Bronx Goodwin. That penalty gives the Dragons the leg-up to break down the Raiders. Plenty of passes across the backline finds Goodwin in the right corner to score against his old side. Jamie Soward's conversion never looked like missing. 6-all.
23min: Sam Mataora practices a WWE slam to give Jason Nightengale a better look at the Canberra turf. The ref's obviously not a wrestling fan, penalty for the Dragons.
22min: Mark Nicholls on for his first run in the NRL. Here's the rundown - 22yo from Leeton and played in the Junior Kangaroos in 2010. The second-rower is a likely looking prospect.
20min: My Canberra Times colleague Jon Tuxworth rightly singing the praises of Tom Learoyd-Lahrs. Bulldozing first 20 minutes from the big fella, 77m from eight sensational carries, filling the void left by David Shillington.
18min: Nothing crazy from the Raiders, just simple field position football. Working a treat so far, Williams kicking in behind the wingers to pin the Dragons inside their 10m line.
16min: The Bronx bomber gets the Dragons out of trouble. Goodwin does superbly well to take a bomb ahead of the sprinting Earl. The Dragons finally with a bit of ball in the Raiders half.
14min: First penalty of the game, a costly one for the Dragons on the last tackle for being offside. The Raiders on the attack again to try and double their advantage.
11min: Raiders try, Edrick Lee - The pressure pays off as the cousin of NBA star Patty Mills fends off Jason Nightengale to score in the left corner. Attack firing beautifully in the opening 10 minutes for the home side, the Dragons defence couldn't hold on. Jarrod Croker makes no mistake with the kick, swinging it over the black dot. Raiders 6-0
9min: Great composure from the Raiders, forcing a third straight set of six from the Dragons. Bronx Goodwin dances his way along the in-goal line but can't get past the sea of green jerseys.
8min: Clever last tackle play from Sam Williams, grubbing into the in-goal to force a repeat set. He's looking assured after a stint in the NSW Cup, but he's yet to be tested in defence.
6min: Kapow, bang! Blake Ferguson puts on a decent hit on Matt Cooper, forcing the veteran Dragons centre into a mistake 20m out from his line. The Raiders seem up for the contest, bright start early.
4min: New recruit Sandor Earl gets his hands dirty early in his first game for the Raiders. A different proposition to his part-time modelling work.
2min: Beautiful catch from Edrick Lee, obviously no demons under the high ball from his nightmare in Townsville.
1min: Welcome back Daniel Vidot. The former Raider gets a few boos from the crowd on his first carry of the ball.
Kickoff: Here we go, Raiders to get first use of the ball.
Pre-game: Decent crowd rolling in for a chilly Monday night. The Iphone says the mercury's at 5 degrees, but feels much colder than that.
Pre-game: Hearing that the Dragons Army bus has broken down at Goulburn. Just another excuse for the Red V and their lengthy Canberra hoodoo.
Pre-game: Just a few days after arriving in town, former Penrith winger Sandor Earl will make his debut for the Canberra Raiders, starting on the right wing in jersey 19 for Dimitri Pelo. Second-rower Mark Nicholls plays his first NRL game in place of the injured Bronson Harrison. Just one change for the Dragons, with Origin forward Trent Merrin released from NSW camp to bolster the Red V. Merrin will start off the bench in jersey 20. Nathan Fien will start at hooker, relegating Mitch Rein to the bench. Jeremy Latimore drops off the Dragons' bench, allowing former Raiders fan favourite Josh Miller to play his first game in Canberra since leaving last year.
Preamble: The Raiders are struggling but the Dragons have a poor record in the nation's capital. Catch all the action live from Canberra Stadium.
