NRL Live: Penrith v Manly

Tim Grant gets the nod as man of the match and that's it for me today.  Thanks for your company and be sure to join us again tomorrow night as we wrap up round 12 with the Roosters hosting the Bulldogs.

Heading into this match on a four-game winning streak, Manly have five days to turn things around before facing the Dragons on Friday night.  We'll be back in a few minutes with the man of the match to wrap things up.  Luke Walsh and Lachlan Coote for mine were the two spearheads of a solid Panthers performance.  Be sure to grab tomorrow's Herald or log on to for all the analysis and wash-up from Chris Barrett and Greg Prichard.

Fulltime at Centrebet Stadium and that's a massive boilover.  Manly were all but unbackable favourites heading into this match, and instead the result is a convincing win to the Panthers.

This four-point tally is Manly's lowest since the 2010 finals series when they were towelled up 28-0 by the eventual premiers St George Illawarra.  They'll remain sixth with two matches to play in this round, while the Panthers remain in second last but move to eight points ahead of the bye next week.

Luke Walsh misses this one, score remains 22-4 to the Panthers.  Manly go the short kick-off again and it works, but they've coughed it up once again.

72 min: PANTHERS TRY.  Luke Lewis dummies and goes straight through for a very soft try.  Panthers 22-4 with a kick to come and this is becoming a bit of a walkover.

71 min: Glenn Stewart knocks on and Travis Burns scoops it up to run 40m.

69 min: Brett Stewart gets there just in time to stop Geoff Daniela bagging a double.  Line drop-out, Manly go short and get the ball back.  Maybe just a sniff here for the defending premiers.

68 min: Manly go the short kick-off but it's gone out on the full.  Not the Sea Eagles' day at all.

Walsh adds the extras.  Panthers 18 Sea Eagles 4 with 11 minutes to play.

Sean Hampstead likes it.  Panthers up 16-4 now with a kick to come, and that's it for me and Manly live blogs.  Big conversion here for Luke Walsh but he shouldn't have too many problems.

67 min: PENRITH TRY.  Walsh kicks to the in-goal, Travis Burns has a crack but misses it before Geoff Daniela gets it down.  Or does he?  Video ref to decide, could go either way.  Penrith out to a match-winning lead if this is awarded.

67 min: Luke Kewis goes to ground barely a metre out from the line.

65 min: Matai's gone on report and Jamie Lyon looked worried it was going to be a send-off.  Galea's off for the day and he won't be remembering too much about this afternoon.

65 min: Another error, this time from Penrith's Danny Galea who's barely moved after being struck by an accidental elbow from Matai, who's hurt himself in the process.  We'll be hearing more about this one I dare say.  Another Manly enforcer might be heading for a few weeks on the exercise bike.

65 min: The crowd roars as Brett Stewart drops one this time.  Panthers can smell a big upset brewing.

62 min: Big conversion there from Luke Walsh - the Panthers now lead by eight and Manly have to score twice.  12-4 with just under 20 minutes to play at Centrebet Stadium.

61 min: TRY to Brad Tighe.  Panthers ahead 10-4 now with a kick to come.  An early kick from Lachlan Coote fails to be cleaned up by the Manly defence and Tighe dives on it to claim the four-pointer, his third of the season.

59 min: See previous update.  Taufua cleans up again for Manly but Penrith have yet another set.

58 min: Luke Walsh grubbers to the in-goal and Jorge Taufua has no choice but to assist it over the dead-ball line.  Manly line drop-out and a repeat set for the Panthers.

57 min: Tim Grant almost makes it through the Manly line.  8m out on the second tackle.

56 min: PENALTY to the Panthers - it's been a while.

55 min: Six again for Manly - after it looked like Glenn Stewart had in fact knocked it on. Etu Uaisele ruled to have played at the ball and I think the Eagles will consider that a bit of a letoff.

55 min: Another error and Manly have the scrum feed just off their own line.  Score remains 6-4 to the Panthers.

53 min: Liam Foran spills it on the last and now the Panthers are on the counter-attack.

52 min: Luke Lewis's turn to head for the naughty corner - he takes his eye off a Travis Burns offload for just a second and it goes to ground.  Manly with the ball in good position.

50 min: A good set from the Panthers but Taufua more than equal to the task as another Walsh kick goes high and deep.

49 min: That's a rarity - Jamie Lyon knocks on for Manly just as the Eagles were starting to look dangerous out wide again.

48 min: PENALTY to the Sea Eagles - again on the first tackle.

Change for the Panthers: Danny Galea on for Clint Newton.

45 min: Luke Walsh going sideways for the Panthers, fourth tackle right on the half-way line.

Ivan Cleary has told his troops to keep doing what they're doing at half-time and keep testing the premiers, while Geoff Toovey wants his Manly side to work on building more pressure when they've got the ball in hand.

43 min: Six again for the Panthers but they've coughed it up immediately.

42 min: Manly give away a penalty on the first tackle.  Looks like an infringement in the play-the-ball and this is a great early chance for the Panthers.

41 min: Etu Uaisele fields the Eagles kick and the Panthers are 30m out from their own line on the fourth tackle.

Nope - Lewis is on and the Panthers' faithful will be glad of it.  Penrith kick off and we're underway again.

Teams are back on the field and we're seconds away from the second half.  Luke Lewis is still in the sheds being strapped and it looks like he won't be starting the second term.

The good word from Barrett:

'Gritty Panthers defence and some uncharacteristic Sea Eagles errors has Penrith's nose in front but you get the impression that lead won't be enough if the premiers hit top gear in the second half at Centrebet Stadium. That said, the Panthers continue to improve - and in the absence of Michael Jennings (coincidence?) - and if they can go on in the same uncomplicated vein a much-needed upset might just be on the cards for one of the competition's cellar dwellers'

40 min: There's the siren and the hosts head to the sheds on the right side of the ledger.  Panthers 6 Sea Eagles 4.  We'll be back in a few minutes with all the second-half action and the half-time assessment from the Herald's Chris Barrett.

39 min: Manly will have the final say in this opening term.

37 min: Lyon just shaves the face of the upright and fails to convert.  Score remains 6-4 to Penrith.

Try awarded.

35 min: Manly looking to lock things up at the break and it's a TRY.  Whare dives over in almost the exact same position but this one looks fine.  Panthers 6 Manly 4, kick to come.

34 min: Penrith spill it as Geoff Daniela is absolutely monstered by Jorge Taufua - and not a minute too soon, the Panthers were a chance up the right flank.

32 min: Walsh makes no mistake from right in front.  Panthers lead 6-0 with eight minutes until the break.

31 min: TRY to Penrith - and there's nothing wrong with that one.  Luke Walsh carves the Eagles up through the middle before offloading to Ryan Simpkins who gets an offload away to Coote under pressure who scoots over under the sticks.  Lovely work.  Penrith 4-0, kick to come.

30 min: Darcy Lussick coughs it up this time as another opportunity goes begging.  Manly have definitely had the better of the attacking opportunities so far but have found a way to bomb them all, while Penrith haven't been without their chances either.

29 min: Penalty to Manly who get us started from Penrith's 40m line.

28 min: Again the Panthers go to Stewart and again he makes no mistake.

Another change for Manly - Kite off for Joe Galuvao.  Nigel Plum has also taken the field for the Panthers.

27 min: TRY to Manly.  Dean Whare over in the corner but we're going upstairs for a look anyway - but it looks like he's dropped it.  No try.  Still 0-0.

27 min: Six again for Manly in good position.

26 min: PENALTY to Manly.  Both sides guilty of gifting the opposition easy metres early in the tackle count.

24 min: Jamie Buhrer almost makes it through before Brent Kite knocks it on.  That's a try bombed.

23 min: Ballin has made about 50m on the first there and Manly are looking dangerous, 30m out now.

21 min: Daly Cherry-Evans puts it on the toe but it's just a touch too deep.  Back to the 20 for a Panthers' restart and they've earned a penalty as well. Walsh finds touch and Penrith will start their set 40m out.

Still scoreless after 20 minutes which is a rarity these days.

20 min: Last tackle for Penrith and Luke Walsh goes high to Stewart again who puts on another good take.

19 min: PENALTY to Manly and that's some easy metres for the visitors. Anthony Watmough went off a few minutes ago with an injury but the mail is he'll be back, nothing too serious.

CHANGE for Manly - George Rose off for a breather and Darcy Lussick on.

16 min: Lachlan Coote's spilled it heading for the corner and that's a letoff for Manly.

16 min: Another penalty.  Will be hard for Manly to hold them out here.

15 min: PENALTY to the home side, to the delight of the crowd.  Panthers will go on the attack barely 20m out from the Manly line.

14 min: Sea Eagles on the attack but Jamie Lyon's flick out the back goes to ground and Brett Stewart finds himself held up over the line.

13 min: PENALTY to Manly.  Ciraldo tugging at the neck of Matt Ballin.

12 min: Josh Mansour leaves the Manly defence for dead before Cameron Ciraldo puts it down.  Eagles scrum 20m out, still 0-0.

Sorry for the slow start  - the gremlins are back in the system but we should be up and running now.  Still scoreless after a tight opening 10 minutes with a few scares for both sides - Luke Lewis went down injured early but seems to be back on his feet, while Brett Stewart took a great catch under pressure on his own line from a high ball before being wrapped up by his opposite number Lachlan Coote.

Underway at Centrebet Stadium as Josh 'Sheikh' Mansour takes it up.

These two sides have already faced off this year - in round six which ended up 30-0 in favour of the defending premiers.  Manly shooting for five straight and there's a few changes.  Gorgeous George Rose is starting, Jason King is out injured, and young Daniel Harrison comes in for Tony Williams who was injured in Origin 1 on Wednesday.

It's a sunny autumn Sunday in the Harbour City today as the teams get ready to head down the tunnel.  The Twitter Outlaw (and Manly fan) James Polson in the seat today.  For those worried about potential bias - don't be.  The only time I blogged the Sea Eagles this year they lost to Parramatta.  Maybe that's why sports ed Ben 'Danger' Coady has thrown me in the mix today.

Welcome to our live blog of the match between Penrith and Manly.
