Raiders v Cowboys

Raiders only completed 25 of 37 sets. You have zero chance in Townsville if you do that. Simple matter is they wasted too much petrol with stacks of defence early on, and the Cowboys made them pay with three tries. See you next Saturday when the Raiders look to bounce back in Melbourne.

Full time: Thurston kicks a penalty goal after the siren, Cowboys win 30-12. Blake Ferguson was holding his face after making a late tackle there too. Hopefully he hasn't reoccurred that cheekbone injury he came back from tonight! Raiders have to bounce back immediately, with another very tough road trip to Melbourne.

80th min: Thurston hits the post and it remains 28-12. Cowboys will run out strong winners here, five tries to two. The Raiders loss has been compounded by a knee injury to Jarrod Croker, and he left the field for the final 15 minutes.

78th min: TRY COWBOYS! Ash Graham scores his 100th career NRL try after Raiders fail to diffuse a Thurston grubber. It's 28-12 now and Thurston lining up to add some icing from out wide.

74th min: Penalty to Cowboys. Thurston elects to take shot at goal to wind down the clock. Kick is successful and the Cowboys look home now at 24-12.

73rd min: Cowboys denied a try by some desperation from Wighton. Thurston grubbers ball through and Wighton bats it dead ahead of a flying Faifailoa.

70th min: TRY RAIDERS!: Campese puts up a bomb which is spilled by the Cowboys. Sam Williams throws it out wide to Jack Wighton who scores. Reece Robinson has taken over kicking duties, an injured Croker has gone off the field, so Reece Robinson takes shot at goal and is successful. Cowboys lead 22-12

64th min: TRY COWBOYS! Croker is really struggling with his leg injury. Tariq Sims runs straight at him and makes a bust, and positions Michael Morgan for the try. Surely the hosts are home now as Thurston converts to make it 22-6.

Make that left knee for Croker, which is his goal kicking leg unfortunately.

60th min: Big collision between Croker and Brent Tate. Tate is back on his feet, but Croker is getting his right knee taped and still looks very proppy.

59th min: Jarrod Croker gets up quite gingerly after a hit up and is in the back play getting attended to by a trainer. Hopefully he's OK, picked up a bit of a knee problem in the pre season which nearly kept him out of round one.

No try!: The Raiders hold on and it remains 16-6. The scoreboard has not changed since about 17 minutes into the game. Surely someone has to give either way here soon.

57th min: Possible try Cowboys. Halfback Michael Morgan stretches out but it looks like he is just short of the line. Ref Gavin Badger initially said no try, so need conclusive evidence to overturn.

55th min: Raiders officially hold on but Campese knocks on from dummy half just 15 metres from Raiders try line. They will do very well to hold North Qld out here after their recent possession.

55th min: Cowboys turn the tables in the pressure stakes now and force a drop out. Looking for the kill shot right here.

53rd min: An error from Fensom followed by a penalty puts Cowboys right on attack. If they score first in this second half it's probably good night Raiders for mine.

48th min: Raiders force the third Cowboys dropout of the second half, building some pressure but they have to throw a bit more at the Cows online defence. North Qld handling them easily so far.

46th min: Great pinpoint kick from Terry Campese forces another drop out. The Raiders have forced plenty of repeat sets so far but haven't capitalised on any as yet.

44th min: Pressure off for Cowboys. Poor decision by McCrone, goes to line and passes short to Sam Williams who is a sitting duck for the defence and spills ball.

43rd min: Raiders will get first chance in second half after Faifai Loa drops a humungous torpedo bomb in goal. If this game was in Canberra that would have come down with snow on it!
