St George Illawarra Dragons v Sydney Roosters

Show comments

Thanks to everyone who followed today's blog. Hopefully everyone did the right thing and marked Anzac Day in an appropriate way. There will be a match report from today's game on shortly. Later tonight there will also be a live blog from the Brisbane-South Sydney game. Enjoy the rest of your day.

That's full time. The Dragons were brave but out-gunned. The Roosters looked like a team that won't be far away come the end of the season, the Dragons look like a team that will be in Bali in September. Roosters 34-14

There's some bad footage for NSW fans. James Maloney is having his shoulder wrapped up in the Roosters' dressing room. Michael Jennings is next to him.

This is now officially a rout. Shaun Kenny-Dowall somehow manages to get the ball down over the line. He had four Dragons on him but still got the job done. Tuivasa-Sheck misses the conversion. Roosters 34 -14

Injury icon

There is a couple of injury concerns for the Roosters. Centre Michael Jennings has is limping from the field with a leg injury. It doesn't look good for the Roosters or NSW with the State of Origin series looming large on the horizon. James Maloney also looks a little worse for wear, he too is heading up the tunnel. Stay tuned to for updates.

That's it. Game over. Boyd Cordner scores for the Roosters. They tri-colours have been too big and too strong all day. It shows again. The Dragons have lacked nothing in the effort department, they have haven't been able to physically match it with the Roosters. Maloney converts. Roosters 30-14

Trent Merrin makes a handling error. He has been very good for the Dragons today, but his team didn't need that.

There is now a simple equation - 17 minutes remain and the Dragons trail by 10. There is still time.

There is life in the Dragons. Gerard Beale scores, courtesy of a great pass from Gareth Widdop. Beale ran a great line and Widdop hit him perfectly. Widdop converts.  Roosters 24-14

A brilliant try-saving tackle from Anthony Minichiello keeps the Roosters' lead at 16 points. Creagh looked in for all money before the veteran No.1 did the biusiness. That made up for his shocker just before half time. Roosters 24-8

The Dragons are asked to hang on again. They do. They look out on their feet and time is becoming a problem.

The way the Dragons have played so far is a far cry from the way they looked over the early rounds. To this point they have been out-muscled and out-thought by the Roosters. That's the standard the Dragons want to reach. They aren't there yet.

The Dragons survive. There is still (some) hope.

Thirty minutes remain. The Rosters are on the attack again. If they score here any faint hope the Dragons have will be gone.

Any hopes Dragons fan had that the try before half time would turn the game around lasted just three minutes into the second half. Friend's superb try has left the Dragons needing three tries to take the lead - provided the Roosters don't add to their tally.

Jake Friend. What a great individual play. After catching the Dragons without a full back, he charges out of dummy half, grubbers the ball into the in goal and wins the race to score a try. Maloney converts. Roosters 24-8

Back to the action. The Roosters kick off, holding a 18-8 lead.

Ed's note: There's been some controversy in league this season - the Melbourne Storm try after the bell, obstruction rulings, video refs - but nothing has rocked Herald Sport more than Paul Zalunardo's haircut. After letting his hair go, Zalunardo went short. Start the campaign #letyourhairgrowzal.

One tasty, yet small, part of Anzac Day is Anzac biscuits. These tasty treats can't be beat. A big thanks to Anna Lycett for these beauties which found their way to Fairfax HQ during the week.
