BULLDOGS 9 (C Stanley try T Hodkinson 2 goals J Reynolds field goal) bt SYDNEY ROOSTERS 8 (M Jennings try J Maloney 2 goals) at Allianz Stadium. Referees: Shayne Hayne, Henry Perenara

79 min: Turnover to the Dogs with 90 seconds to go. They're all but home.

77 min: Roosters make a break down the left but Maloney spills Tupou's pass. Time running out for the home side.

75 min: Bulldogs force an error from SBW inside the Roosters' half - didn't the Dogs' fans love that!

Flashback #8: Sonny Bill Williams, back when he was a Bulldog, makes a break against what is now his team, the Roosters, in 2007.

70 min: Reynolds field goal puts the Dogs back in front. DOGS 9-8

69 min: Pearce misses with a field goal attempt. Meanwhile, Stanley, who has had a terrible run of injuries, is leaving the field with a serious arm injury.

67 min: Reynolds penalised, Roosters attacking the Dogs' line.

66 min: Next team to get a penalty wins! In my humble opinion.

Injured skipper Steve Price celebrates with his teammates after Canterbury won the 2004 grand final over the Roosters.

57 min: NO TRY. Roosters winger Daniel Tupou's leg touches the sideline before he scores in the corner. Great tackle by Reynolds.

53 min: Williams on Williams! Crunching tackle by T-Rex on SBW, who has had a rather quiet game tonight.

51 min: Dogs muscling up in defence, restricting the Roosters to only 25 metres before their last-tackle clearing kick.

48 min: Excellent set by the Roosters but an even better bomb defusal by Stanley.

46 min: It's knock-on city early in the second half - Josh Jackson fumbles on the second tackle. Roosters ball.

45 min: But a knock on by Pearce gifts the Dogs another chance.

44 min: Early attacking opportunity for the Dogs thwarted by a one-on-one strip by Tuivasa-Scheck.

Flashback #6: Referee Paul Simpkins sends off Roosters centre Justin Hodges after he hit Bulldogs skipper Steve Price with a head-high tackle in 2004.

41 min: The second half is under way, with the Roosters kicking off.

Brad Walter writes: The Roosters would be happy to go to half-time with the scores level after fighting their way back into the game late in the term after ill discipline again appeared set to cost them dearly.

Remarkably, the statistics at the interval show both teams not only tied up on the scoreboard but also level in the possession stakes at 50 per cent apiece and the penalty count, which stands at 5-5.
With the Roosters trailing 8-0 early when they had only 37 per cent of the ball and had conceded five penalties to three, this game is likely to come down to who can hang on to the ball best - particularly in the wet conditions at Allianz Stadium.

Flashback #5: Roosters fullback Luke Phillips, who these days is an NRL referee, is sandwiched in a big tackle against Canterbury in 2002.

ROOSTERS 8 (Jennings try; Maloney 2 goals), BULLDOGS 8 (Stanley try; Hodkinson 2 goals). It's an arm wrestle, anyone's game.

39 min: Maloney levels the scores with a penalty goal. 8-8

34 min: The Roosters are on the board; precision pass from Pearce puts Michael Jennings over untouched. James Maloney converts. BULLDOGS 8-6

30 min: Brilliant defence by former Rooster Sam Perrett denies Mitchell Aubusson a try.

29 min: Superb kick by Hodkinson forces the Roosters to ruck the ball off their line.

Flashback #4: Roosters assistant coach Craig Fitzgibbon back in his playing days against the Bulldogs at the Sydney Football Stadium in 2001.

21 min: A Hodkinson penalty goal gives the Dogs an eight-point lead. BULLDOGS 8-0.

19 min: Roger Tuivasa-Scheck spills a towering bomb. Dogs on the attack again.

17 min: Dogs looking threatening again. They've certainly had the better of the opening quarter.

12 min: After three straight sets of six on the Roosters' line, Dogs winger Chase Stanley scores. Trent Hodkinson converts from the sideline. BULLDOGS 6-0.

Bulldogs winger Chase Stanley opens the scoring.

Flashback #3: Roosters legend Brad Fittler scores a try against Canterbury at the Sydney Football Stadium in 1996.

9 min: Tony "T-Rex" Williams almost lays on a try. Dogs looking dangerous.

5 min: NO TRY to Jake Friend, SBW ruled to have driven him over the line. Video refs over-ruled on-field ref Henry Perenara. Early scare for the Dogs.

4 min: Roosters awarded the first penalty of the evening.

Flashback #2: Canterbury-Bankstown winger Steve Gearin makes a pass during his team's 18-4 victory over Eastern Suburbs in the 1980 grand final at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Gearin scored one of the most famous tries in grand final history that day.

2 min: Both teams have competed two solid first sets. Conditions difficult for handling.

    1 min: Bulldogs kick off.

Both teams are making their way onto Allianz Stadium now. Stand by for kick-off.

Fairfax senior reporter Brad Walter writes: Sydney Roosters' bad luck with the weather continues as the premiers prepare to host yet another wet home game that appears likely to again keep the crowd down, as it did in the World Club Challenge and last Friday night against Manly.

Despite Allianz Stadium being far from full, most fans are sitting at the back of the stands under cover as they watch the Roosters and Bulldogs warm up on the field ahead of kick-off.
The Roosters' 1974 premiership winning team that beat Canterbury 19-4 in the grand final are also being paraded before the game.

Good evening and welcome to our live coverage of what should be a cracking match between two of the fiercest rivals in the NRL.

In team news, the Roosters have made a late change, with Isaac Liu replacing Kane Evans. Liu's return means Frank-Paul Nuuasala will shift to the front row, Aidan Guerra into lock and Dylan Napa to the bench alongside Liu, Daniel Mortimer and Mitchell Aubusson.

For the Bulldogs, co-captain Frank Pritchard is a late scratching, having been unable to recover from an ankle injury. Greg Eastwood is his replacement.

Allianz Stadium, Sydney, Friday 7.40pm (AEDT)

Last meeting: Round 15 2013 - Roosters 20 bt Bulldogs 18 at ANZ Stadium

    Head-to-head: Roosters 80 Bulldogs 77 drawn 5

    Referees: Shayne Hayne, Henry Perenara

TV: Live, Channel 9 (delay Brisbane)

    Ladbrokes: Roosters $1.42, Bulldogs $2.95

    Betfair: Roosters $1.47, Bulldogs $3.05

Michael Chammas writes: The premiers have had a slow start to the year, while the Bulldogs produced their best performance of the season to upset Melbourne in Perth last week. The Dogs are a team that can get on a roll when confidence is high, but the return of Sonny Bill Williams from suspension provides the Roosters with the touch of class they've been missing.

    Tip: Roosters by 6

AAP writes: After last week’s bruising 8-0 loss to Manly, the Roosters won’t relish facing a tough and resilient Bulldogs side. The return of Sonny Bill Williams will be a boost for coach Trent Robinson but the absence of Jared Waerea-Hargreaves means young big boppers Dylan Napa and Kane Evans will really need to step up against one of the best front rows in the NRL. The Roosters followed up their only other loss of the season by putting 50 on an improving Parramatta side, but Des Hasler’s men will pose a much tougher test.

Key: Trent Hodkinson is the in-form goal kicker in the NRL, missing just twice in 19 attempts. If the Roosters find themselves on the wrong end of another penalty count it could be another night of frustration.

ROOSTERS: Anthony Minichiello (capt), Daniel Tupou, Michael Jennings, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, James Maloney, Mitchell Pearce, Frank Paul Nuuausala, Jake Friend, Sam Moa, Boyd Cordner, Sonny Bill Williams, Aidan Guerra. Interchange: Daniel Mortimer, Mitchell Aubusson, Dylan Napa, Isaac Lui.

BULLDOGS: Sam Perrett, Corey Thompson, Josh Morris, Tim Lafai, Chase Stanley, Josh Reynolds, Trent Hodkinson, Aiden Tolman, Michael Ennis (capt), James Graham, Josh Jackson, Tony Williams, Dale Finucane. Interchange: Pat O'Hanlon, Tim Browne, David Klemmer, Greg Eastwood.

    • I have yet to figure out why SBW is up on his pedestal. Yeah he looks good. His hair never moves, but frankly, he's not the superstar he's made out to be.
