Former NRL player Anthony Watts has reportedly been detained after allegedly trying to break into his ex-fiancee's Gold Coast home.

Nine News reports the former Roosters player was taken to hospital in handcuffs after allegedly attempting to break into Shannon Kiss' family home and yelling threats this morning.

A police spokeswoman would not confirm Watts' involvement, but said police detained a man in Miami.

"Police attended a Miami residence shortly before 8am today after a complaint from the female resident of a man attempting to break into the premises," the spokeswoman said.

"When police arrived, they detained a 26-year-old man.

"The man is presently receiving medical treatment for a condition.

"Police will interview the man about the incident and other matters once he has received the necessary medical treatment."

Watts was dropped from the Roosters last year after he was charged with assaulting Ms Kiss.

The charge was later dropped.
