The same can't be said for the Belconnen United Scholars, who are stuck on the bottom of the Canberra Raiders Cup table after a 32-18 loss to the Bushrangers at Greenway Oval on Saturday. The Scholars (1-10) are three points behind the Woden Valley Rams in the battle to avoid last place on the table.

Scholars coach Matt Britt said staying away from the most dreaded piece of silverware in sport was the goal from now until the end of the season.

"Every week for us, we're at the bottom, so we want to work our way up the ladder a bit,'' he said. "Obviously, no one wants to get the spoon.

"We've got three more games, so we want to get that bit of pride back.''

With a strong breeze at their back in the second half, the Scholars staged a remarkable fightback to rally from 18-0 down at the break to level the game.

But the Bushrangers remained composed and piled on three tries in the final 10 minutes to record their fourth win from 11 games this season.

"They had the wind in the first half, but we didn't complete any sets coming out of our own half,'' Britt said. "We didn't do ourselves any favours with a lot of errors, just not getting down their end to play footy.

"There were a couple of calls that didn't go our way; we dropped our heads and they put another couple of tries on us at the end. It definitely turned the game around.''
