Godwin is set to spend up to three months on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury, while Toua has been ruled out for four to six weeks with a grade one high ankle sprain.

Losing Godwin and Toua for the home quarter final has the Brumbies reeling after a horror night against the Queensland Reds on the eve of the finals.

The search is on for replacements as the Brumbies look to fill the void against the Waikato Chiefs in Hamilton this weekend.

The soon-to-be-crowned Australian conference champions are already without flanker Chris Alcock for the clash after he had a deep gash in his thigh stitched up.

Lock Rory Arnold is also nursing a shoulder complaint and could be rested for the Chiefs clash.

Alcock is eyeing a return to finals action at Canberra Stadium on July 21 but the news isn't so good for the Brumbies' backline pair.

Christian Lealiifano is a potential replacement for inside centre Godwin, but head coach Stephen Larkham is wary of risking him after he injured his hamstring before what was to be his comeback game, 11 months after he was diagnosed with leukaemia.

Larkham has no shortage of options with Nigel Ah Wong, James Dargaville, Nick Jooste, Jordan Jackson-Hope, Andrew Muirhead, and Andrew Smith also in the mix.

"We are disappointed for the guys who have done so much for us this year," Larkham said.

"The boys may not be able to take to the park in finals but they will certainly take part in the preparation with the rest of the team."

This weekend looms as a potential finals rehearsal for the Brumbies, who could line up against the Chiefs two weeks in a row.

Brumbies halfback Joe Powell says this week's clash will be the perfect opportunity for both sides to "feel each other out" after a disappointing loss to the Reds.

"It's not the big important one this weekend, next weekend is the one you want to win," Powell said.

"For us, we need to sort our stuff out from last weekend, it was very disappointing. It's just about getting our combinations back after a bit of a break.

"The work pre-break gave us an opportunity to work on a few things in these last two games. We secured a finals spot.

"It's just momentum and getting that winning feeling back. We had that really good lead up to the break, not the ideal time for us to be stopping footy for a bit and going away and doing our own thing.

"It is really just about building that winning feeling back in the group."

Powell says the Reds loss doesn't dent the Brumbies' confidence as they look to stun the competition on their path to the Super Rugby championship.

The Brumbies will host either the Chiefs or Wellington Hurricanes in the first week of the finals regardless of where they finish on the ladder.

Flyhalf Wharenui Hawera doesn't think playing the same opposition twice in a row would be an issue because the Brumbies have "one of the smartest coaches going around".

Hawera cut his teeth in the Waikato system and spent four years with their provincial side, and he says putting together a complete 80-minute performance is "crucial" across the ditch.

"He's always got a few tricks up his sleeve and obviously [we need to be] clearing those errors up," Hawera said.

"Obviously 80 minutes on the weekend wasn't good enough, it wasn't up to our standard. We're excited to go down [to Hamilton] and have a crack and hopefully come away with the win."
