Despite Folau's outstanding year – which has delivered a Super Rugby title with the NSW Waratahs and a John Eales Medal – Folau says he still has challenges in rugby he is yet to fulfil.

One of those is a World Cup next year. But the 25-year-old is refusing to get caught up in speculation on his future.

Folau has already been linked to a rich deal with French club Toulon or a switch back to the NRL.

But Cheika's arrival as Wallabies coach could change Folau's future path.

"It's definitely a positive thing," Folau said of Cheika's Wallabies appointment.

"But I've said in the past all my contract stuff – I've got one more year to go with the Waratahs – and there are lot of options I have to weigh up.

"I'll leave all that stuff to my management, sit down and reassess with what I want to do … For me, I'm really comfortable with 'Cheik' being coach.

"I've had him at Super Rugby level and he's been exactly the way he is since joining the Wallabies. A lot of the boys feel comfortable and he's doing a great job off the field to get to know the boys."

Folau is intent on ending a five Test try-scoring drought when the Wallabies play Wales in Cardiff on Sunday morning.

The ARU will introduce a new contracting system from 2016 to allow players to take overseas sabbaticals or play rugby sevens at the Olympic Games in Rio without sacrificing Wallabies eligibility.

Both rule changes could be crucial in keeping Folau in rugby with the NRL keen to entice him back and French rugby keen to make him one of the richest players in world rugby.

Cheika's vision is to make the Wallabies set up enjoyable so players fear they will be "missing out on something" if they sign contracts with cashed up overseas clubs.

But one move Folau categorically ruled out was following Parramatta's Jarryd Hayne in an attempt to break into gridiron.

"Nah, not for me, definitely," Folau said when asked about a move to the NFL.

"I think it was a huge move from Jarryd and hopefully he goes over there and does well. But for me, I'm really enjoying playing rugby and there are still a few things I want to achieve within rugby."

Asked if Hayne could open the floodgates if he's successful, Folau said: "There are a lot of talented players in all different codes and if Jarryd makes it good with the move, I think it will open options for guys who are maybe thinking about going over.

"I watch the game and enjoy it, but you've got to have a passion to want to go over there and transition and have a real crack at it.

"For me, I enjoying watching the game but it's probably something I don't have a passion for as much as Jarryd does. Greg Inglis is a guy who I think could [make it in NFL]."

The Wallabies will attempt to extend a nine-game winning streak against Wales in the first Test of their five-week tour of Europe.

It's Cheika's first Test in charge after taking over from Ewen McKenzie two weeks ago.

"Most people would say I've gone under the radar because I haven't scored tries, but I'm doing a lot of work off the ball and trying to create opportunities for guys around me and myself," Folau said.

Inside centre Christian Lealiifano said the Wallabies had bought into Cheika's style.

"I'm really enjoying it, he's made it quite clear we're trying to find our own identity and the way we want to play. I guess you've got to buy into that or he probably won't pick you," Lealiifano grinned.

"It's really exciting and enjoyable to play. It's coming together, we just need a bit more time with it."
