Folau hasn't quite captured his sparkling best at his debut World Cup as teams try to curb his dynamic influence and try-scoring potency.

The tri-code superstar has failed to score a try in his three matches despite a remarkable strike rate since making the switch the rugby union three years ago.

He has also looked unusually shaky under testing high kicks and it didn't help that he was carrying a niggling ankle injury into the 15-6 win against Wales last weekend.

But the Folau curse is the remarkably high standards he has set for himself and a try-scoring reputation.

In his 33 Tests before the World Cup, he scored 18 tries. He scored 73 tries in 91 NRL games and has got across the line 25 times in his 44 games for the NSW Waratahs.

Failing to score in three matches is hardly a slump and World Cup-winner Larkham said there was no cause for panic.

"He's a guy who really relishes getting the ball in hand and we didn't get a lot of ball in hand [against Wales]," Larkham said.

"We're not overreacting with any of that sort of stuff. We know he's a quality player and that he'll get more opportunities [this week], which will create more opportunity for him to do some amazing stuff."

Folau is expected to be near full fitness for the quarter-final clash with Scotland on Sunday (Monday morning AEDT).

He trained just once last week after rolling his ankle and he didn't get a chance to impose himself against Wales.

The try-scoring statistics only tell part of the story, with Folau making the most metres in the Wallabies-Wales battle, making line breaks on two of his four runs and almost breaking the game apart with a late try.

Folau's influence was also hindered by Wales' tactics to give away breakdown penalties in a bid to take the Wallabies' back line out of the game.

Teams are also starting to kick away from Folau or make him contest high balls without giving him the freedom to move.

"He had three guys on him and still managed [a break]. He's got the ability to open the game up," Larkham said.

"The delivery off our lineout wasn't where it needed to be and therefore we didn't get a lot of ball.

"When we had a couple of passages where we strung a few phases together, [Wales] infringed at the breakdown and were probably lucky not to get yellow cards after what happened to us in the second half."

The Wallabies had to defend for seven minutes with just 13 men on the field after Will Genia and Dean Mumm were sent to the sin bin for repeated infringements.

But Wales escaped in the first half by pushing the boundaries and halting any attacking momentum the Wallabies were building.

Scotland will most likely employ the same tactics to keep players such as Folau, Tevita Kuridrani, Matt Giteau and Adam Ashley-Cooper out of the contest. But Larkham said the Wallabies were better prepared this time.

"It happens all the time, there's a bit of leniency from the referee in the first half, but in the second half he's had enough. It is what it is, we're not complaining about that," Larkham said.

"If I look at that last passage [in the second half against Wales], we didn't lose anything. We haven't lost that ability to attack, it's all still there."
