The Brumbies dug deep to get a confidence-boosting win against the NSW Waratahs on Saturday night and stamp themselves as a Super Rugby title contender.

But Speight's fractured jaw and Leon Power's knee injury put a dampener on one of the team's gutsiest wins in recent seasons.

Speight struggled to open his mouth after fracturing his jaw and could have surgery as early as Monday.

Power will find out on Monday if his knee injury is more serious than first thought and whether he will join a star-studded injury ward which already includes David Pocock (knee), Christian Lealiifano (ankle) and Fotu Auelua (knee).

The Brumbies have three potential recruits lined up to fill the void left by Pocock, but it's unlikely they will sign a player before their next game.

They are set, however, to get a major boost for their clash against the Cape Town Stormers, with Speight's "fro bro" Joseph Tomane declaring he is ready to make a comeback from a foot injury if he's needed.

"We have a tough stretch ahead. We've been battered around, we've done a fair bit of travel, but we've found some confidence and cohesion," Larkham said.

"The guys played some superb rugby against NSW. But we have to be careful with how we manage our squad because of injuries.

"The win against the Waratahs shows we can stand up through pressure ... find a way to solve problems. It allows you to have a belief that you can get through anything no matter what they throw at you.

"We have to get through this period ... we've had our fair share of injuries early but guys who were on the fringe at the start of the season now have an opportunity to play."

Wallabies inside centre Lealiifano has returned to training with the Brumbies, but the club will resist the temptation to rush him back before his scheduled comeback on March 28.

Tomane played the opening round of the season, but damaged a ligament on the bottom of his foot.

He played 40 minutes for the ACT XV in its win against Samoa A on Saturday and the Wallabies speedster is itching for a chance to return to Super Rugby.

"Super Rugby is where you want to be so it's good to finally be through all the rehab," Tomane said.

"Hopefully I can work my way back into the side. My foot is fine, I feel healthy as well. But the guys are doing well and you don't want to change too much to a winning formula.

"But I'm definitely ready if needed. There's a lot of competition for spots, but that's healthy for the team and it's pushing me to make sure I can be the best I can for my teammates."

Speight's fractured jaw was the only dampener on the Brumbies' outstanding performance against the Waratahs.

The Brumbies played with 14 men for 20 minutes but managed to hold on for a 28-23 triumph at Canberra Stadium.

Speight, who is the team's cult hero, was in his 50th Super Rugby appearance, but clashed with Adam Ashley-Cooper before half-time and had to leave the field with blood coming from his mouth.

"It looks like Henry needs an operation and then the recovery depends on how the operation goes, but it could be six weeks," Larkham said.

"We're very lucky [that Tomane] came back and the timing has worked out quite well. We're lucky we've got a bit of coverage."
