But Wallabies skipper Michael Hooper says the team is still searching for a killer instinct and an ability to "squash" teams out of the contest on the spring tour of Europe.

The Wallabies have won their first two games under Cheika's guidance and have set their sights on remaining unbeaten on their five-game tour. They will have an extra advantage this weekend, with Cheika's intimate knowledge of French rugby after coaching Stade Francais for three years before joining the NSW Waratahs.

The Wallabies completed a clean sweep against France in the mid-year three-Test series in Australia.

"But I know having coached in France … they'll be a totally different beast at Stade de France than they were in Australia in June," Cheika said. "They've got a forward-power game and play much tighter than we do. I'll get to see a lot of friends and guys from my old team … France and Ireland are like home games for me."

The Wallabies haven't completed a clean sweep of a European tour since 1996. They are preparing to face France in Paris after a tense 33-28 win against Wales.

Despite beating Wales, Cheika could make changes to the line-up to suit the French style as he gets to know players with whom he hasn't previously worked.

Wales was on the cusp of breaking a nine-game losing streak against Australia before five-eighth Bernard Foley stepped up and kicked a drop goal and penalty in the last seven minutes.

"That's two from two under the new regime, we've had 14 days training hard and getting the result at the back end of a game is really promising," Hooper said. "Every team will throw something different at us … But you put yourself under pressure if you let teams score after you have. "The game is filled with highs and lows … a work-on for us is being able to get back-to-back points and squashing teams out through not letting them into the game easily."

Cheika has taken a hands-on role since starting as Wallabies coach, enjoying a sideline sparring session with Quade Cooper at training last week. It's a training method he used to help unlock Wycliff Palu's devastating best with boxing coach Aaron Scully, who has now joined the Cronulla Sharks.

"I think Quade was letting me get a few in," Cheika grinned. "I had fun with it … we had an amateur boxing coach [at the Waratahs] who did a lot with Wycliff Palu and he got fit and dropped weight. We'll keep doing it."

Superstar fullback Folau bounced back to his brilliant best with two tries against Wales, ending a four-Test scoring drought.

"I think the team is building very nicely and the camaraderie is very important to us," Folau said of the new Wallabies set-up. "We're trying to build together off the field and hopefully that transfers … we're tight-knit and we want to keep building that."
