Coleman says he's content with his decision to put Super Rugby ahead of the Olympics when he re-signed with the Brumbies last year.

Coleman will play for the Queanbeyan Whites in their clash against the Tuggeranong Vikings on Saturday as they search for their first premiership in six years.

Queanbeyan junior Coleman could have easily been in Brazil helping the Australian sevens team after weighing up the opportunity to join their Olympic campaign.

The Australian women's side won gold on Tuesday but the men were knocked out in the quarter-finals.

Coleman helped Australia win a silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games before choosing the Brumbies instead of sevens.

"Watching the boys play over at the Olympics is amazing," Coleman said.

"At the time when I made my decision [to pick the Brumbies], my body wasn't 100 per cent and it was enough to hold me back from being my best.

"Now I'm fit and I don't regret that decision one bit. It might not be Rio, but I love the atmosphere at the local rugby grand final. It will be great to put on a show for everyone.

"I loved representing my country at the Commonwealth Games, but I don't look back at [this decision] and regret it."

The men's sevens team lost to South Africa on Thursday morning to be bundled out of medal contention.

Former Queanbeyan speedster Lewis Holland injured his hamstring on the first day of the competition while Canberra's Tom Cusack scored Australia's only try in their quarter-final defeat.

The Australian team boasted plenty of Canberra links, including former Brumbies coach Andy Friend, Queanbeyan scrumhalf James Stannard and Tuggeranong forward Jesse Parahi.

But the world No. 4-ranked Australians couldn't lift enough to beat South Africa in a lopsided 22-5 exit from the competition.

"We put a whole lot of hard work in over the last two years and to bow out so early is obviously shattering," said Australia captain Ed Jenkins.

"I thought we bounced back well from yesterday's performance to stay alive but it was a completely different South African side which fronted up today for that last game."

Meanwhile, in other games fairytale stories Fiji and Japan will play in the other semi-final after the top-seeded Fijians knocked out New Zealand 12-7.

Surprise-packets Japan, who shocked the All Black Sevens on day one of the tournament, continued their roll of upsets by coming back to beat France 12-5 in their quarter-final.
