The Australian player market could be flooded in the coming weeks if the ARU finds a way to cull the Force or the Rebels from the competition.

The Brumbies have been keeping a close eye on player movement, but have avoided making contact with recruitment targets until the ARU makes a decision.

The ARU will go to arbitration with the Force this week in the hope of finding a resolution, but the ugly saga could drag on for months to come.

ARU boss Bill Pulver is expected to front SANZAAR members with an answer to the problem on August 7.

But McKellar says the Brumbies won't hesitate signing "the right people" if they become available before the future of the Force and Rebels is finalised.

"We've got a couple of spots, but if we find the right people who we think will be the right person, then we'll go ahead and sign them straight away," McKellar said.

"We're not necessarily just waiting for a decision to be made at ARU level. When the right person becomes available and if the decision hasn't been made, then so be it.

"If not and there is a decision made, then we'll consider players from whatever team happens to be cut."

McKellar has already started ramping up preparations for his first season as a Super Rugby head coach and Stephen Larkham will officially vacate the post on Monday.

Eleven Brumbies have left the club, with young flyhalf Nick Jooste being released after injuries cruelled his two-year stint in Canberra.

Scrumhalf Matt Lucas and hooker Folau Faingaa have been mooted as recruitment options, while McKellar will add two backs to the roster to bolster the attack.

Fullback Aidan Toua had hoped to secure a flexible deal to play in Japan during the off-season before returning for the Super Rugby campaign.

However, it appears unlikely the ARU will grant his request and block his hopes of continuing his Brumbies career.

His absence will be offset by the rise of Tom Banks, who has emerged as a future Wallaby and excitement machine.

But Force star Dane Haylett-Petty or Rebels back Reece Hodge would be attractive options for the Brumbies as well given their versatility and big kicking boots.

McKellar is keen to play a free-flowing attacking style by giving players a licence to take opportunities.

However, they will not adopt a run-at-all costs mentality. Brumbies fans grew frustrated this year with inaccurate kicking.

"What we tried to evolve this year was our attacking game and being more threatening from unstructured situations," McKellar said.

"We have to improve our kicking game. Kicking is a big part of rugby whether people like it or not. The New Zealand teams kick more than anyone, you've just got to kick well and with purpose.

"We have to improve in that area. We will continue to evolve our attacking game and challenge teams."

Larkham backed McKellar to take the Brumbies to a new level.

"Dan has some tremendous coaches around him, I think the team will learn a lot out of this year," Larkham said.

"So there are some good things for Dan to work with and he's shown he can coach at Super Rugby level.

"We're in a better position right now better than we've been to go on for next year and Dan will help take those steps."
