The former World Cup-winning five-eighth turned down the opportunity to be an assistant to new Wallabies coach Michael Cheika on this year's spring tour of Europe, instead choosing to focus on preparations for next year's Super Rugby season with the Brumbies.

But Cheika has signalled he will have more discussions with Larkham when he returns to Australia next week. There have been suggestions the 102-Test veteran could be coaxed into a role as an attack specialist.

Larkham praised the "attractive" brand of attack the Wallabies had adopted under Cheika's coaching and admitted he would "certainly be interested in helping out the Wallabies".

"I spoke to [Cheika] before he went on tour ... for me it wasn't feasible, it wasn't the right time. However after this season, I'm certainly open to those options," Larkham said.

"Doing a short stint in preparation for the World Cup would be something I'd certainly consider, however I've made a commitment here with the Brumbies and I want to see that through."

Larkham has stated his desire to be a future Wallabies coach.

Thrust into the Wallabies job after the sudden resignation of Ewen McKenzie, Cheika will continue to coach defending Super Rugby champions the NSW Waratahs next year and has been keen to have Australia's other provincial coaches involved in the Wallabies.

"It's a good story," Larkham said. "Banding together and working together with the Wallabies would be a lovely story, but I think all the provincial coaches see their role as developing players at the Super Rugby level, which will hopefully transfer to the international level."

Larkham has been impressed with Australia's style of play under Cheika, even in their last Test loss to Ireland.

"If you want to see some entertaining rugby, look at the first 25 minutes of the Ireland game on the weekend. It's fantastic rugby from both sides. I think the style of rugby the Wallabies are playing at the moment is very attractive."
