The Brumbies unveiled Fakaosilea for the first time on Wednesday after finalising a two-year deal to become a ball-running cannonball in the absence of retired Ita Vaea.

Carving out a Super Rugby career in Canberra is his No. 1 motivation and he's intent on making a mark after leaving the Queensland Reds.

But there's a passion for boxing bubbling just under the surface and he wants to set up a heavyweight fight with Cronulla Sharks skipper Gallen.

Gallen is preparing for two fights in December and Fakaosilea , a relative of rugby union great Jonah Lomu and boasting an amateur boxing record of 46-4, wants a piece of the NRL veteran.

Fakaosilea says he also offered to fight Brisbane, Queensland and Kangaroos star Sam Thaiday, but was turned down.

"I still want to fight Gallen," Fakaosilea said.

"We've tried everything to get to him but just the time difference with his NRL season and our Super Rugby season, it hasn't worked out.

"I offered Sam Thaiday a fight but he said no. I've got the same coach as Sonny Bill [Williams], so he won't let me fight Sonny Bill.

"I want to get Paul Gallen, that's a goal for me. But rugby comes first for me and that's No. 1 coming down here to Canberra."

Fakaosilea has been working with Canberra boxer Ben Edwards to stay fit after recovering from hamstring injuries which destroyed his Super Rugby season this year.

He has also met with Canberra Raiders front-rower Junior Paulo to talk boxing and strike up a friendship.

But while the former Australian junior representative has a passion for boxing, the Brumbies want him to become their Super Rugby battering ram as he chases his rugby goals.

Vaea was one of the most feared players in Super Rugby and on the verge of a Wallabies call up when doctors told him he risked death if he continued playing after scans discovered a blood clot in one of his arteries.

Vaea's father, Tutuila, used to babysit Fakaosilea when he was younger and in a twist of fate Fakaosilea has been earmarked as the man to fill Vaea's hitman role.

Fakaosilea, a versatile 115 kilogram back-rower, said he hopes to take his game to a new level in Canberra.

"I want to play the best footy I can and learn off all of the Wallabies boys here," Fakaosilea said.

"I'm here to get better and if the opportunity comes, I'll take it with both hands.

"Ita was obviously a crazy ball carrier, but I think there are some aspects where I'm a bit different.

"I love the breakdown and I think if I can do the ball carrying as my main job and pilfer as well ... hopefully it goes well.

"I just want to make my own mark and learn from the guys who are already in Canberra."

Brumbies players will break from training on Friday to begin an off-season holiday before starting their pre-season preparations in November.

Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham be with the Wallabies on their end of year tour to Europe until December before turning his attention to Super Rugby duties.
