Almost everything went wrong when the Argentina Jaguares arrived in Australia last week, but no one complained and they still managed to beat the Melbourne Rebels.

It's part of new coach Mario Ledesma's "no excuses" mantra and he hopes it will help them topple the ACT Brumbies when he returns to Canberra Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Ledesma was a frequent visitor to Brumbies headquarters in his role as Wallabies forwards coach for three years, but is back after taking the Jaguares reins for the Super Rugby campaign.

The Jaguares are regarded as one of the most dangerous teams in the competition because they're so unpredictable. Unbelievably good one day, battlers the next.

That's what Ledesma is trying to change and the team's journey to Melbourne was a major step forward after a calamity of errors.

"It's been good so far and the boys are growing every week," Ledesma said.

"We had a difficult week before the Rebels. We were in and out of the airport [in Argentina], we lost our connection in Chile so we were there for two days and only got to Melbourne on Thursday night.

"Our bus to the stadium [broke down], so we walked to the stadium for our warm up and we were late. But this year we've got a no excuse culture. Everything that happened was a good test of that.

"We just need consistency. We've been inconsistent from game to game and even in games. We've done some great stuff and some average stuff, that needs to change."

Former Brumbies scrumhalf and Argentina international Tomas Cubelli is testing the no excuses theory. Cubelli left the Brumbies at the end of last year to link with Ledesma at the Jaguares.

But his return home hit a major hurdle before the Jaguares started training when he fractured his fifth vertebrae in a Test against the All Blacks in October.

The popular No. 9 is set to make his comeback in practice matches in Argentina in the coming weeks, and send messages to Brumbies players at the final training session on Saturday morning.

The Jaguares are hopeful he will be able to play during their Super Rugby campaign, but for now Ledesma is focused on back to back wins in Australia.

Ledesma was a regular visitor at Brumbies headquarters last year in his role with the Wallabies, working closely with Dan McKellar in his old job as Brumbies forwards coach.

Now the two will lock horns as rookie Super Rugby head coaches.

"I think [Wallabies coach Michael Cheika] will be down here as well, so it will be good," Ledesma said.

"I had a great three years here, but rugby wise it was too good of an opportunity to go back home with the family for the first time in 17 or 18 years. It was just the right time.

"It's been a challenge, but something that I'm really enjoying. It's going to be a tough challenge against the Brumbies."
