And Mowen is confident the five changes in the Brumbies' starting XV will add the ''extra spark'' required to topple the Chiefs at Bay Park Stadium in Tauranga.

The Brumbies are aiming to continue their strong start to the Super Rugby season and win a third consecutive match for the first time in two years.

While they have beaten the Western Force and Free State Cheetahs, tonight's clash will be the biggest test of the club's new era.

The Chiefs have stamped their intention to be a finals contender by beating competition powerhouses the Canterbury Crusaders and Auckland Blues.

''They've got dangers all over the park, they've got an all-star back line and a hard-working forward pack,'' Mowen said of the Chiefs.

''The challenge for us is to be physical early and play a really disciplined game plan.

''You don't want to get caught in a game of sevens with the Chiefs because you'll lose that every time.

''We've got to make sure we stick to our plan, play smart field position and build pressure through that.''

White has added Leon Power, Scott Fardy and Michael Hooper to the starting forward pack and Ian Prior and Joseph Tomane to the back line.

While the back line changes were forced through Matt Toomua's knee injury and Nic White's battle with illness, White wants to rotate his forwards to keep them fresh.

''Those guys have really earned their positions and their efforts are being rewarded,'' Mowen said.

''They're guys in good form, Fardy was outstanding for us last week and when you've got guys in form it adds a bit of extra spark.''

It's the Brumbies' first overseas trip with White in charge.

The Chiefs' exciting back line includes Sonny Bill Williams, Aaron Cruden and Richard Kahui.

It has the potential to run riot if the Brumbies don't limit its chances to attack. But White said his side could not afford to take the Chiefs' forwards lightly.

''They were always a back-line team, they played catch-pass rugby and used their backs, tried to out-sprint and out-pace you,'' White said.

''But what [coach] Dave Rennie has done is change that. They've got great balance.

''They've got real forwards who take it to the line and backs who are good enough to cut you apart."
