Alcock is set to miss the Brumbies' trip to Hamilton to take on the Waikato Chiefs this weekend after receiving stitches for a nasty gash in his thigh.

He is one of a host of players the Brumbies could be without this week as they nurse a horror injury toll and lessen the risk of further damage at the same time.

Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham is considering resting players for the final game of the season with a spot in the finals already locked up.

Aidan Toua and Kyle Godwin face a nervous wait ahead of scans on Monday to determine the extent of ankle and knee injuries and their chances of playing Super Rugby again this year.

Alcock has already put a line through his own name for the final match of the regular season but hopes to be back for a home quarter-final, which could be against the same opposition.

"It was quite a big cut. I don't know how deep it was... it didn't go through muscle," Alcock said.

"Definitely hoping to be back for the finals. I'm pretty confident that I should be back for the quarter finals."

The Brumbies will host either the Chiefs or Wellington Hurricanes in the first week of the finals regardless of where they finish on the ladder.

Lock Rory Arnold is also facing a stint on the sidelines despite an early prognosis deeming his shoulder injury is not too serious.

Larkham could opt to leave the hulking forward out to ensure he is fit and firing come finals time at Canberra Stadium on July 21.

But he is caught in two minds about whether he wants his players on the paddock building momentum as they look to shock the competition and win the club's third title, or leaving them out to negate the risk of injury.

If Larkham wants his players building momentum they will need to turn things around quickly after a shock defeat to the Queensland Reds on Friday night.

The Reds scored 10 points in the final eight minutes to escape with a victory but Alcock says it isn't a huge dent in the Brumbies' confidence.

Instead they will bury it and move on as they look to mount an unlikely Super Rugby championship charge.

"Hopefully we got all the rust out of the way and we can start playing rugby how we want to," Alcock said.

"We're just going to go back and focus on ourselves, figure out where we went wrong in that game and just work on those errors, and try to keep playing the style of rugby we want to play.

"I think everyone has put it behind them. We had a back rower playing in the centres, a hooker playing as a flanker. It was just unfortunate that that's what happened during that game."
