The Brumbies held a light training session in Canberra on Tuesday less than 24 hours after returning from their successful hit and run mission in Cape Town to keep their championship dream alive.

While Larkham's men ran roughshod over the Stormers en-route to a 39-19 triumph in the early hours of Sunday morning (AEST), it's a much different scenario against a Hurricanes team which has left all in its wake this year.

With an imposing 14-2 win-loss record, the Hurricanes easily clinched top spot and the luxury of knowing two more victories at home will secure them the title.

In contrast, the Brumbies will be racking up the frequent flyer miles as they attempt to become the first side in Super Rugby history to lift the trophy from sixth on the ladder.

Larkham kicked off the mind games on Tuesday when he suggested the Hurricanes could be rusty after getting a saloon passage to the semi-finals.

"They've had the week off, they'll be nice and fresh, but maybe their combinations will be lacking," Larkham said.

"They've had a number of injuries over the last couple of rounds and a lot of those players are potentially coming back this week.

"We'll see if that affects their combinations.

"For us, it's about continuing the momentum that we've had."

Four wins from their past five games has the Brumbies peaking at the right time of the season.

They can also take confidence from their recent record against the Hurricanes.

While the two teams didn't meet this year in one of the quirks of the competition's conference system, the Brumbies have taken the honours in their past four encounters.

The Hurricanes lost just two games all season - going down 29-24 to the Waratahs in Wellington on April 18 and a 35-18 defeat to the Crusaders in Christchurch on May 29 when they had top spot all but secured.

Larkham said it was hard to find a weakness in the Hurricanes.

"They've been quite physical and their unstructured attack is good," Larkham said.

"You could say their backline is where their biggest threat is, but their forward pack has been playing exceptionally well.

"That's the reason they're on top ... they've got a really good all-round game."

Brumbies captain Stephen Moore said the players had recovered well from the long trip back from South Africa.

The Brumbies will fly to Wellington on Thursday.

"That South African trip is done now and we just look to this weekend," Moore said.

"In terms of history and stuff like that, we haven't talked about it and we're thinking pretty short term and trying to get our preparation right.

"It's a tough challenge and it's a pretty special opportunity to still be in the competition at this stage.

"We haven't taken the mentality that we've got nothing to lose, we want to win the competition, so we're not trying to play second fiddle."
