But 12 years after the Brumbies won their last Super Rugby title and a wide-eyed nine-year-old Staniforth finally got to watch from the stands, the emerging lock is the one handing out tickets to family and friends as he prepares for a tough finals initiation.

The Brumbies will start selling tickets to the public on Wednesday after members snapped up their seats in the first three days of sales for a knockout clash against the Otago Highlanders on Friday night.

Staniforth has been bugging teammates and Brumbies office staff trying to get his hands on as many as possible to make sure no one misses out.

"I'm up to about 15 or so at the moment – I'll always try to help out whoever I can," Staniforth said.

"It's only Tuesday so I'm expecting to get a few more ... there's been a few texts this week.

"I've been asking around the other players and picking up ones I can get here and there, it's awesome to be able to play in one after watching the Brumbies when I was growing up."

Staniforth sat in the crowd with dad Keith when the Brumbies lifted the Super Rugby title in 2004.

They managed to jag tickets after missing out in previous years and the Brumbies have only played two finals matches in Canberra since that moment.

Canberra Grammar graduate Staniforth and former Marist College student Joe Powell were still in primary school when the Brumbies last won the title.

But the pair want to chase a slice of history to keep the Brumbies alive in the Super Rugby championship race.

"My old man took me to the 2004 final, it's very exciting to be a part of one all these years later," Staniforth said.

"Some we couldn't get tickets for but dad and I would always go. I used to love Stephen Larkham, Matt Giteau, Owen Finegan, George Smith ... that 2004 era was amazing.

"When I was a kid I never thought I would get here. But now playing finals is always a goal and the dream is to win it.

"It's not very often that you get to play in finals and some haven't played one yet, but we're in a good position to go all the way."

More than 7000 tickets have been sold before being available to the public and it is hoped Canberra fans will jump on board to crack 20,000.

The Brumbies are giving away 2000 free pies to the first 2000 fans through the gates as well as free parking until 4.30pm.

ACT Chief Minister also channelled former Prime Minister Bob Hawke to say that bosses should let employees leave work early to make to the stadium in time for a 6pm kick-off.

Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham will finalise his team on Wednesday night, with Staniforth set to battle for a bench spot with Michael Wells if David Pocock is ready to return from a fractured eye socket.

Staniforth waited 700 days between his Super Rugby debut in 2014 and his second game earlier this year, and he's ready to throw everything he's got into the play-offs.

"The bench spot has been really fun and I've loved having that different role," Staniforth said.

"[Larkham] has spoken to me about coming on and making an impact or adding a spark to the team. It's something different and I've really enjoyed it."

The twist in Staniforth's Super Rugby finals debut is that his dad won't be in the crowd to watch.

Instead, Keith Staniforth will join Brumbies fullback Aidan Toua in a Papua New Guinea pub to watch the game.

"You wouldn't have expected them to run into each other over there ... it's pretty crazy," Staniforth said.

"I don't know whether they were the only two people in the pub or whether they just ran into each other."
