The Brumbies unveiled Richie Arnold as their latest recruit on Tuesday and the 208 centimetre lock could team up with brother Rory next year to form the biggest second-row combination in Super Rugby history.

It continues a remarkable journey for the 27-year-old duo, who haven't played together since they were randomly plucked out of a pub six years ago to play bush footy because of their size.

It also looms as a confusing ploy for Brumbies teammates and opponents given Richie regularly gets mistaken for Rory and they both stand at 208 centimetres - the tallest players in Australian rugby history.

Richie hopes to follow Rory's rise after the demise of the Western Force and is prepared to throw his weight around in an intense battle for Brumbies second-row spots.

"Some people think I'm Rory ... when we were in Fiji for the NRC this year they thought I was Rory and wanted to get a photo," Richie grinned.

"Sometimes I just go along with it ... we're pretty competitive but whenever we belted each other we were best mates 10 minutes later.

"I'm my own person and different to Rory around the park. I'll be looking to make a name for myself and make a bit of a name for myself."

The Arnolds will become the third set of identical twins to play for the Brumbies, following in the footsteps of Saia and Anthony Faingaa and Ruan and JP Smith.

They are the tallest players in Australia and the equal second tallest in Super Rugby behind JP de Preez, who is 209 centimetres.

They started their rugby careers together for the Murwillumbah Bananas, when Rory was the tallest No. 8 third grade had seen and a lanky Richie was easily the tallest centre in the competition.

Rory joined the Brumbies in 2015 and made his Wallabies debut last year, while Richie spent two years in Perth before the Force was axed from Super Rugby.

"It has been quite hard, once we found out [the Force was cut] it was a weight lifted and we could focus on the future," Richie said.

"But I'm very grateful to the Western Force. One door closes and another opens so I'm very excited by the chance to join the Brumbies in Canberra."

Richie and Rory will form the tallest second-row partnership in Super Rugby's 22-year history if they get on the field together next year.

But they'll have to fight for positions with skipper Sam Carter and newly minted Wallaby Blake Enever.

The Brumbies have all but finalised their squad, with Force flyer Chance Peni on the radar as the final recruit to be added to the club's roster puzzle.

Richie Arnold joins Mees Erasmus, Isi Naisarani and James Verity-Amm in joining the Brumbies after the Force was axed.

The players will start pre-season training at the end of the week and new coach Dan McKellar is keen to start putting his plan into place for next year.

"Richie's a big boy and a good footballer ... he brings that physical presence and natural aggression," McKellar said.

"There's going to be competition for spots, which is good. We've got a good squad, we're comfortable with where we are.

"We've taken time with our recruitment to find guys who will fit into our environment."
