Waratahs v Hurricanes

s

The Waratahs have secured a five tries to three victory over the high-flying Hurricanes in an entertaining encounter at Allianz Stadium. They were down 24-7 early in the first dig, but Hooper, Foley and Ashley-Cooper triggered a massive revival, as the NSW franchise stormed home. Michael Cheika will be impressed by his side's spirit, and the Tahs will be feeling super confident they can make the play-offs. The Hurricanes were good value - especially playmaker Barrett - but they were up against a team that seemed more desperate than usual to win. A great game - and a great result for the Waratahs.

78th minute:

Apart from one crossfield howler, Foley's kicking has been spot on.

75th minute:

Penalty to the Waratahs for Perenara's backchatting after the ref made a somewhat dubious knock-on call. Foley does the honours. Surely an unassailable lead now.

72nd minute:

Michael Hooper has once again been phenomenal for the Tahs. His breakdown work is superb.

69th minute:

Tahs go close. Kurtley Beale's power run from 10m ended on his back a metre short of the line as he attempted to plant the ball on the stripe. Alas for him, it bobbled up in a knot of desperate bodies.

66th minute:

Will Skelton showed beautiful soft hands to deliver a deft inside ball for Hoiles to latch onto. Lovely play from the big, nay huge, fella. Foley's conversion attempt bounces off the woodwork.

49th minute:

A period of sustained Tahs pressure ends with an overcooked Foley crossfield kick Folau can only bat in from the touch line. The wind caught that one big time - it was a low percentage play, really.

Waratahs 24 Hurricanes 24

47th minute:

Folau still looks a bit ginger when he picks up the ball in his 22. For all his tryscoring brilliance he still hasn't fully acquired a rugby union brain.

Waratahs 24 Hurricanes 24

44th minute:

Tahs finally get a chance to breathe out with an offside penalty in their own 22.

Waratahs 24 Hurricanes 24

43rd minute:

Canes bomb a certain try: as Hooper's pressure tackle forces a poor, skidding pass to Cory Jane with the line wide open.

41st minute:

Trivia: The 48 points scored in the first half is the most scored since 1996.

A seesawing half has seen the Tahs launch a massive comeback after falling behind 24-7. Early on, the Hurricanes looked like they were heading for a big halftime lead as playmaker Beauden Barrett called the shots and the Tahs made a series of schoolboy errors. But great attacking play from Foley and Ashley-Cooper has put the NSW franchise back on even terms. Both teams are playing exciting footy - the second half should be a belter.

39th minute:

Penalty Tahs. Foley slots over the three-pointer. They've now scored 17 unanswered points.

Waratahs 24 Hurricanes 24

38th minute:

Horne goes close. Foley's grubber looked like it was going to sit up perfectly but it bounced like a googly and bamboozled the No. 11 as he crossed the line.

Waratahs 24 Hurricanes 24

37th minute:

Stop the presses: Barrett throws a dodgy pass. Must be feeling the pressure as the Tahs ramp it up a gear.

Waratahs 21 Hurricanes 24

34th minute:

It's raining tries. Foley swivelled, reeled and lunged to score from 5m out. He converts his own try. Tah Man is going off.
