The Welsh squad has been on edge this week as they stare at a potential 11th consecutive loss against Australia in a hoodoo stretching seven years.

The Wallabies' World Cup squad record holds a remarkable 117-6 win-loss record in matches against Wales, with only five of the 31 players ever experiencing a defeat at the hands of the Red Dragons.

Wales hasn't beaten Australia since 2008 and only twice since 1987, with Stephen Moore, Matt Giteau, Dean Mumm, Quade Cooper and Drew Mitchell the only current Wallabies to know what it's like to lose to Wales.

Hooker Tatafu Polota-Nau was on the bench for a 24-22 defeat in 2005, but never made it on to the field and didn't register a Test appearance.

But Wales have been suffering nightmares of a different kind this week, players adamant their Oatlands Park Hotel is haunted and that some players have seen the ghost of Henry VIII.

It has resulted in some sleepless nights even for captain Sam Warburton, but it's their record against the Wallabies and a pool of death contest that should be giving them headaches.

Warburton knows how important it is to break the cycle and set up a path to the World Cup trophy.

"I haven't experienced anything yet, but a few of the boys have," Warburton grinned.

"[Room] 1313 is the one that apparently has temperature changes and a couple of paranormal things happen. Our physio was in there he was fine until we made him aware of it.

"…It's definitely not a case of us relaxing this week and thinking that it's good that we're through to the quarter final. If you put a big shift in this week and it will benefit you for the next two or three so it is very important."

The historic Oatland Park Hotel stands on the site of the Royal Palaces of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I.

Flanker Dan Lydiate is adamant he's seen a ghost, and teammate Ross Moriarty said: "[I don't believe in ghosts] as much as the other boys. But Dan really thinks he saw something.

"I heard a bang which woke me up in the middle of the night – I found out it was Sam [Warburton's] room later and apparently his phone was on the floor somehow so I'm not sure what's going on up there."

The paranormal activity might be just the distraction Wales need to break their Wallabies curse.

Wales coach Warren Gatland has a fully fit 31-man squad to pick from for the first time in the World Cup so far.

Both teams are guaranteed a place in the quarter finals, but there's plenty on the line with a smoother path to the final up for grabs.

The winner will play either Scotland or Japan in the first week of the play-offs while also avoiding two-time champions South Africa and New Zealand until a potential World Cup final clash.

The Wallabies have avoided ghosts, but have been struck by their slice of World Cup bad luck.

Israel Folau (ankle) is fighting to be fit while Rob Horne (shoulder) and Michael Hooper (suspension) won't be in the game day squad.

But former Wallaby Rod Kafer expected minimal disruptions for an Australian team aiming to continue its Welsh domination.

"I think [history] does play a factor, there are just certain teams that you like playing against. I think the Wallabies just like playing against Wales," Kafer said.

"They've been successful against Wales. It doesn't mean they're going to win, but I think they're just pretty comfortable playing against them."
