But lock Rob Simmons says the players must avoid getting caught up in the excitement of the occasion to ensure they aren't overwhelmed when they step on to the biggest stage of all.

The Wallabies will play New Zealand in the World Cup final at Twickenham on Saturday (Sunday morning AEDT) with the winners etching their name in history.

Australia have conceded just five tries in their six games so far. Three of those came in a quarter-final against Scotland.

New Zealand have conceded four tries, and pose a completely different attacking threat after running in 36 tries in their six matches.

The Wallabies were forced to frantically scramble to protect their line in a 29-15 win against Argentina last weekend, desperately clinging on as the Pumas exposed defensive flaws.

"We try to review and we're trying to improve every single day," Simmons said. "The coaches will get us on our technical points where we can improve, and that's what we'll work on during the week.

"No, that's right [we can't rely on scrambling]. We're trying to stop things from the start. We don't have to always be scrambling. If we can nip it in the bud from the start then we'll try to fix it there."

Simmons scored the fastest try of the World Cup when he stuck out his hand and took an intercept pass just one minute into the clash against Argentina.

It was the perfect start for the Wallabies and helped lay the platform for them to secure a place in the final.

"I don't think second-rowers are ever thinking intercept. Just a reaction, stuck my hand out and it stuck. The next reaction is to bolt towards the line," Simmons said.

"The biggest focus this week is that [it's just another game]. It's going to be another knockout round, winner takes all. That's what you focus on, you don't try to look at the bigger picture or it will overwhelm you."

The Wallabies scored four tries to nil against Argentina, but their poor discipline kept the Pumas in the contest. Sharpshooter Nicolas Sanchez booted five penalties to give Argentina hope.

And the Wallabies face another super boot in Dan Carter in the final, and he will take advantage of any goal-kicking chance he gets.

The Wallabies have conceded an average of 10.33 penalties per game in the tournament, a statistic Simmons said the team must fix.

"[Discipline] is going to have to be a focus. You saw [Argentina] stayed in touch on the scoreboard all through penalties," Simmons said.

"We didn't let a try in but they were still in touch in the game with kicking it over. I think it's just trying to be disciplined. We're always trying to do the right thing and to do everything in the legal way.

"We've just got to be smart with it and play the game with a hard physical edge and hopefully get the dominance there."
