They’re the semi-final heroes who have vowed to rise to a new level to win a Super Rugby championship and Matt Toomua and Tevita Kuridrani are adamant the ACT Brumbies are yet to hit their peak.

Just 48 hours after being named in the Wallabies squad, Toomua and Kuridrani combined to save the Brumbies’ championship dream in Pretoria on Sunday morning.

Kuridrani scored the match-winning try with just 90 seconds remaining to lift the Brumbies to a 26-23 win over the Pretoria Bulls at Loftus Versfeld.

Flyhalf Toomua set the try up and ensured the Brumbies remained alive in the title race with the team to travel to New Zealand this week to play in the final against the Waikato Chiefs on Sunday.

The victory capped a whirlwind two days for Toomua and Kuridrani.

The duo were two of the 12 Brumbies named in Ewen McKenzie’s first Wallabies squad.

And in the blink of an eye they justified their selection with a play which will be etched in Brumbies folklore.

Trailing by four points, Toomua spotted a gap and burst through the line.

Kuridrani arrived in support on the inside and the Fijian went over the line untouched to score a thrilling victory against the odds.

"It was about looking for a hole and then having the balls to do it," an elated Toomua said.

"It was having the balls to have a crack and I’m happy in the end because that play wasn’t working for us at the start of the year, so to see it work was nice.

"I would have been disappointed if we didn’t win because there were a couple of opportunities I missed ... I would have been devastated."

The game’s defining moment came after the Brumbies struggled to get any possession and territory in the second half.

Toomua had opportunities, but on one occasion he passed to winger Joseph Tomane, who was pushed into touch, and on the other he offloaded to Christian Lealiifano, who spilled the pass.

Coach Jake White said after the match he wanted Toomua to be more aggressive and take the ball to the line more often.

The beauty is he’ll get that chance in the final against the Chiefs in Hamilton this week.

Toomua is widely regarded as Australia’s best defensive flyhalf, but it was his attacking brilliance which lifted the Brumbies to victory.

The 23-year-old is part of McKenzie’s Wallabies squad, but he will likely wait for his opportunity behind Queensland’s Quade Cooper.

"I’m stoked to be part of the 40-man squad, but it was a weird feeling," Toomua said.

"I was extremely happy, but I knew I had a job with the Brumbies and part of me wants to make the 30-man squad. The job’s not done."

Kuridrani is the softly-spoken Fijian who has rocketed onto the Test radar.

The 22-year-old was shocked when White told him he was picked in the Wallabies squad and admitted he thought it was ahead of schedule.

But World Cup-winning Wallabies coach Bob Dwyer rates him as a potential superstar and Kuridrani showed coolness under pressure to lift the Brumbies to a win.

Now he says the job is winning a championship.

"It was unbelievable ... all I was looking for was the try line," Kuridrani said.

"Wallabies wasn’t a distraction, I was just focused on this game. I didn’t expect Jake to call out my name ... I just want to prove myself.

"I didn’t see it coming this quick. We’re pretty confident for the final and we’ve got great belief for the final."
