Alexander has been ruled out with the flu. Ruaidhri Murpy will take his place in the starting front row with Scott Sio added to the bench as the back-up prop.
Alexander has been the Brumbies’ Ironman over the past four seasons.
Last year he was on the verge of playing every minute of every game in one of the most demanding positions before he was knocked out in the last game of the season.
The Brumbies need to beat the Blues or lose by less than seven points to guarantee themselves a place in the Super Rugby finals for the first time since 2004.
If they lose by more than seven points, they will rely on the result of the Queensland Reds failing to collect a bonus-point win against the NSW Waratahs tonight before they can celebrate a finals berth.
