Mr Kennedy and Brumbies chief executive Michael Jones are expected to meet on Friday where it is likely mediation will be raised as an option more than a month after the Super Rugby club's board stood down Mr Jones.

The ACT Supreme Court ruled on Thursday to keep an injunction in place and that Mr Jones would keep his job due to whistleblower protection, but hours later powerbrokers were split across Canberra at different meetings.

Canberra club rugby presidents had called for an extraordinary general meeting to seek answers from the Brumbies board about its decision to stand down Mr Jones last month and a KPMG report into transactions at the Brumbies between 2009 and 2013.

But Mr Jones, three club presidents and several members were left stranded at Brumbies headquarters, where the EGM was dissolved after 30 minutes because not enough people showed up.

Instead, the board had organised a rival meeting across town in Tuggeranong to avoid confrontation with Mr Jones, with four club bosses, life members and others attending. Mr Jones was not notified of meeting.

The board was locked in its meeting for more than three hours after Mr Kennedy called for officials to meet away from Brumbies headquarters.

"We welcomed the court lifting the restrictions on us and being able to brief our members. We had a very frank and fruitful discussion and finally got to put our side of the story to all the voting members," Mr Kennedy said.

"We certainly look forward to a quick and amicable resolution of this issue."

Mr Jones described the situation on Thursday night as an "embarrassment for rugby in Canberra" and said: "I wish this hadn't happened tonight so that we could focus on rugby".

Wests, Royals and Easts were left disenchanted with the board's decision to organise a rival meeting after the clubs - who hold the balance of power in the Brumbies board room - called for the EGM.

The EGM had agenda items to dissolve the board and then elect new directors.

Easts president Greg Dennis said: "We came to hear the board's story, the agenda as it was put up we were going to seek to change that. We really need to hear the the other side, so the presidents can get together and form an opinion about the way forward."

Wests president David Bensley added: "I'm just disappointed that it had to play out this way, we had an opportunity to put a lot of this to bed. It means another day of it."

Royals also attended the meeting in Tuggeranong, and Vikings president John McGrath said: "Thanks [to] Rob [Kennedy] to fill us all in on the things that have been missing from their side of the story. We got the information we were hoping to get and we look forward to the board resolving whatever needs to be resolved."

Earlier in the day, Justice Richard Refshauge ruled in Mr Jones' favour and the Brumbies board failed in its attempt to overturn his temporary whistleblower protection.

Justice Refshauge gave the board provisions to terminate Mr Jones' contract if he breaches his terms, so long as it gives five days written notice and it is not related to him making disclosures about irregularities with the sale of the club's Griffith headquarters and move to the University of Canberra.

The KPMG report, which looks into the transactions of the $11.375 million sale of Griffith and subsequent move to the university has been suppressed in court.

The board stood Mr Jones down on March 21, but is yet to publicly detail its reasons. Justice Refshauge ruled in Mr Jones' favour and added that he was satisfied that the public interest disclosures were a "dominant factor" in the board's decision to stand down Mr Jones.

Mr Jones said outside the ACT Supreme Court: "Now the question is for [chairman Robert Kennedy], [director Carmel McGregor] and the rest of the board to actually get in front of those people who elected them to explain what the hell has happened and what is in the documentation that they have been fighting so strenuously to keep quiet.

""There'll be a lot of questions that'll be asked about their involvement over the last seven years and hopefully this is the first step in the process of clearing up what's been a really unsavoury period for the Brumbies.".

"It's not over. There's still a long way to go, but today is the first step in that."

Asked if he was confident of being the Brumbies' long-term chief executive, Mr Jones said: "I would hope so.

"Some of the tactics and things that have been done have been pretty ugly. But I'm a big boy and I've got to be professional. I'm trying not to make it about me, I'm trying to make it about the organisation and what's right for it and cleaning it up.

"... I certainly want all of the information to come out because I feel absolutely, 1000 per cent confident that once it comes out there will be a big 'ah-ha' moment for people as to what transpired in this whole process."

Tension stems from the KPMG report, which is part of an ongoing Australian Federal Police investigation and was jointly funded by the Australian Rugby Union and Brumbies.

Mr Jones argued he had made disclosures in the public interest, and was the victim of detrimental action by the Brumbies board and a range of others, including former ACT deputy chief minister David Lamont, Wallabies great Joe Roff, the University of Canberra, and the UC Union.

Justice Refshauge wrote in his judgement: "Accordingly, I am satisfied that, taken as a whole, the decision of the board shows, to the relevant degree, that it was taken because of the public interest disclosures made by Mr Jones, at least as a dominant factor, and that this is sufficient to the purpose of the interlocutory proceedings."
