Moore is weighing up his future options and has indicated he is keen to stay with the Brumbies and Wallabies in the coming years, with a new deal almost certain to see him end his playing days in Australia.

It's a major boost for the Brumbies and ARU as cashed-up overseas clubs throw their money at Wallabies stars to lure them abroad.

Moore, 32, has attracted interest from Ireland and France, but it appears his No.1 preference is to chase a Super Rugby title and a shot at World Cup glory.

The Test captain has played 102 Tests for Australia and will play his 150th Super Rugby game when the Brumbies start their Super Rugby season against the Wellington Hurricanes on February 26.

Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham said: "[Moore] is a valuable asset to both the Brumbies and Wallabies. Negotiations are in an early stage, obviously we'd want to keep him."

Moore falls into the ARU's new flexible eligibility rules, which would allow him to play overseas without losing the right to represent the Wallabies.

However, one of the most respected figures in Australian rugby is keen to stay in Super Rugby if possible.

Moore signed a one-year extension to stay with the Brumbies for the 2016 Super Rugby season.

He was elevated to the Wallabies' captaincy by coach Michael Cheika earlier this year and led Australia into the World Cup final.

If he signs a new extended deal for three years, he will be 36 when the next World Cup is held in Japan in 2019.

Moore would almost certainly overtake Keven Mealamu has the most capped player in Super Rugby history and close mate Nathan Sharpe as Australia's most capped Super Rugby player.

Brumbies management has initiated talks with Moore and his agent with the ARU on board. It's understood the finer points of the contract are still being negotiated.

Brumbies duo Matt Toomua and Joseph Tomane will leave Canberra at the end of the 2016 Super Rugby season and star flanker David Pocock is being pursued by overseas clubs.

Pocock is weighing up his future and could also take a sabbatical from rugby, but the Brumbies are waiting until he returns from his off-season break before launching into negotiations.

The Brumbies are also fighting hard to keep Christian Lealiifano in the squad, offering him a flexible deal which would allow him to supplement his deal with stints in Japan.

Moore told Fairfax Media last month he wanted to repay the faith the Brumbies and Wallabies put in him when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee last year.

Moore was ruled out for nine months with the injury, but the Brumbies and Wallabies re-signed him on a one-year extension for the 2016 season.

"I haven't thought too much about it ... now that the World Cup is over you look at that stuff. I'll have a think about it, I'm someone who doesn't like those [contract negotiations] to drag out," Moore said.

"I'll probably address that in the next few months. When I re-signed [last year], the Brumbies and Wallabies put a lot of faith in me when I was injured and that means a lot to me.

"You look at all the different situations, I'll talk to my family. I enjoyed my rugby this year as much as I ever have."
