But Alexander will shelve his Test plans to pursue his goal of adding to the Brumbies' legacy, declaring "I've got a lot left to give" as he sets his sights on winning a Super Rugby title.

Alexander will become just the eighth Brumby to play 100 games for the club when he runs out against the Queensland Reds in the season opener on Friday night.

The most experienced Test prop in Australian history is intent on breaking an 11-year title drought for Canberra and says he wants to stay in Australian rugby for as long as he can.

"If it was all to finish today, I'd be pretty disappointed we didn't have any silverware to show for all the hard work that everyone at the Brumbies has put in," Alexander said.

"I want to live up to the legacy that the guys I looked up to created ... the time is right. We've learnt lessons in the last two years.

"Sometimes you've got to learn lessons the hard way and I think we have done that with heartbreaking losses we've had. Everyone was hurting and everyone's motivated.

"We've all trained incredibly hard and we almost got there, but we didn't win. I think we can change that."

Alexander has earned a reputation as an ironman prop, missing just two Super Rugby games since the start of 2009.

He has also played 72 Tests for Australia, but was relegated to the bench on the end of year spring tour of Europe last season.

The 30-year-old hopes his Super Rugby performances can help him earn back the Wallabies' No.3 jersey with the World Cup looming at the end of the year.

Alexander's Brumbies and ARU contracts expire at the end of the year, but he believes he has plenty to offer Australian rugby and will delay any negotiations until later in the season.

"I'd love to stay and play my days out for the Brumbies and Wallabies, but you have to weigh up a lot of factors," Alexander said.

"Certainly I've got to fight for a Wallabies spot, that's what I want. I want to be there playing as many minutes as I can for Australia.

"But I'm not focused on Wallabies. I'm only concentrating on my job for the Brumbies and the rest takes care of itself. I feel like my best footy is ahead of me."

Alexander made his Super Rugby debut in 2008 and was a shock selection in the Wallabies squad in the same year despite failing to break into the Brumbies starting team.

But it sparked Alexander's career, establishing him as a Wallabies mainstay. He has played almost every game in the past five seasons and claimed the unusual honour of the Brumbies' highest try scorer in 2010.

"When I started I was just happy to get one game. To get to here is something I'm very proud of, but I feel like I've got a lot left to give," Alexander said.

"I've been around a long time, through the bad times and the good. We're getting close. When it's all said and done I hope I can say that I've added to that proud legacy at the Brumbies."
