Wells looms as the man to take on either the Brumbies' openside flanker or No.8 duties when Super Rugby resumes against the Queensland Reds on July 1.

Superstar David Pocock (fractured eye socket) and Jordan Smiler (knee) are out for at least the next month, leaving Wells and Ben Hyne to stand tall with play-off hopes on the line.

Former Australian sevens player Wells made his Super Rugby debut this year but has only seen limited time from the bench in his three appearances.

He says that won't be an excuse if he's picked for the Reds clash in Canberra, determined to play his role as the Brumbies launch their finals charge.

"You never want to see teammates get injured and it's really unfortunate for those guys. I've got to turn their bad luck into my good luck in a way," Wells said.

"Hopefully I can get on the field and have a good crack at it. There are always opportunities in Super Rugby and there is an opening there.

"I just have to fill the shoes of the other blokes in my way if I do get that chance to play.

"For the team, the next three games it's all or nothing and that's the same approach I have. It's not added pressure, it's just going to be preparing and playing to my ability, not trying to be anyone else.

"Everyone gets an opportunity and the difference between the good players and the ones that don't crack is that they take their chance and go with it."

The Brumbies have three regular season games left, with clashes against the Reds, the Auckland Blues and the Western Force.

It is hoped Pocock and Smiler will be back in time for the finals, but they could make an earlier than expected return if their rehabilitation is fast-tracked.

The Brumbies will return to Canberra on Wednesday after they fell short of a world club 10s title in Mauritius.

The two-day tournament on the island nation in the Indian Ocean provided a solid base for players like Wells to get increased game time and exposure in the Brumbies' system.

But it also hit the Brumbies' player stocks with Smiler suffering a knee injury and Blake Enever nursing a sore sternum.

Wells is an almost certain inclusion in the Brumbies team to play the Reds while Hyne, who has signed an extended player squad deal for the 2017 season, is also set to get his chance.

Hyne has been playing for the Tuggeranong Vikings in the Canberra first grade competition but is not poised to earn a Super Rugby call up as the Brumbies walk a finals tightrope.

"There's only four back-rowers back so we're probably going to all have to be included.

"I'm confident in myself, having those three runs earlier in the season gave me the confidence of what Super Rugby is and you've got to get used to it quickly otherwise you're not cut out for it.

"We're on a finals run, I can't let anyone else down. I can't take my time to get used to it, I've got to get stuck in early and do my job the best I can."
