Kuridrani decided against having season-ending surgery to keep his Wallabies goals alive and continue his bid for World Cup selection at the end of the year. But the Fijian-born centre will have just three regular season Super Rugby games to press his claims when he returns, opening the door for Adam Ashley-Cooper or Israel Folau to pinch his Test No. 13 jersey.

Kuridrani is refusing to let a two-month injury blow cruel his World Cup chances and Super Rugby title aspirations. "It's very disappointing, I wasn't expecting this to happen and then to be out for so long," Kuridrani said.

"But I've got to train harder than I was before to make sure I come back much, much better. I don't want to be far away from where I left off so I can continue to perform. I had the option of letting the bone heal or having surgery, but surgery would have pretty much made me miss the whole season of Super Rugby. I want to get back out there for the Brumbies and there's no risk of long-term damage."

The biggest injury blow of Kuridrani's career came a week after he signed a new two-year deal with the Brumbies and the ARU and his absence leaves a gaping hole in the back line.

The Brumbies are closing in on more re-signings, with Rory Arnold and Ita Vaea on the verge of new deals while the club also searches for a new scrumhalf.

Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham will cast his eye on candidates to replace him, with James Dargaville looming as the most likely option and Nigel Ah Wong on the verge of coming back from a fractured arm.

Henry Speight can also play at outside centre while Lausii Taliauli and Rodney Iona could also get a chance.

Kuridrani has established himself as Australia's best No.13 over the past two years, putting in standout performances for the Wallabies and earning a regular spot in the Test team.

His shoulder problem is the biggest injury of his career and the 23-year-old was shattered when he fell awkwardly in a tackle against the NSW Waratahs last weekend.

"I got up and thought it was OK, then I looked down and saw the bone sticking up and then I felt the pain when I went back to the change rooms," Kuridrani said.

"It normally takes six weeks for the bone to get back together, hopefully I can come back before the seven or eight weeks. It's good to know that it's not going to affect me when I come back and it will be back to normal."

If Kuridrani needs the full eight weeks to recover, it will take him until the end of May to make a Super Rugby return, with only three games left before the finals. The Brumbies play their last three games against the Pretoria Bulls, Western Force and Canterbury Crusaders.

Kuridrani is also set to face competition from Ashley-Cooper and Folau for Test selection in the Rugby Championships and the World Cup.

"The World Cup is still my goal ... I just need to work harder to achieve it," Kuridrani said. "They said it was just the ligaments ... hopefully when I return I'm not far off where I was. It's just about getting the rehab work done and taking it step by step to get back."

The Brumbies will return to training on Friday after being given the week to recuperate from an intense start to the season. They play the Free State Cheetahs at Canberra Stadium in their next match on April 4.
