Former Australian fullback Greg Martin said on Tuesday Genia would be dumped from the starting XV, elevating White to the No.9 jersey and Brumby Ben Mowen to the captaincy.

Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie will name his team on Wednesday before the must-win Test against Argentina in Perth on Saturday night.

It is understood that White has been training as the starting No.9 this week.

His Brumbies teammate Matt Toomua is also in line for a recall to the No.10 jersey with playmaker Quade Cooper's spot also unclear.

But former Wallabies coach John Connolly says dumping Genia would rob Australia of its only world-class player and be a bizarre move to try to snap a four-game losing streak.

''He [McKenzie] talked about dumbing things down - maybe they're playing too complex a game plan,'' Martin said.

''They will be dropping Will Genia to the bench and

replacing him with Nic White. Ben Mowen, playing No.8, will become the new captain of the Wallabies.''

Moving Genia - regarded as one of the world's best No.9s - to the bench would leave a gaping hole in the squad's experience with Mowen having played just six Tests and White making his international debut last month. But after an embarrassing loss to South Africa last week, it would signal McKenzie's intentions to make hard decisions to get success.

Regular captain James Horwill is recovering from a hamstring strain. Mowen was vice-captain last weekend and looms as the leading man to take the captaincy reins if Genia is out.

''It would be a strange move [to drop Genia] because I think he's arguably one of Australia's only world-class players,'' Connolly said. ''Genia has played so much footy - he takes the role of a back-rower and really gets involved so that can take its toll.

''Nic White's form has been solid as well. But it all comes down to how you react to a loss … there's a lot more to it. The go-forward of the back row is a massive issue.''

If Toomua and White are added, it would allow the Wallabies to have an all-Brumbies combination at halfback, five-eighth and inside centre.

NSW Waratahs Sitaleki Timani, Bernard Foley and Dave Dennis have all been added to the Wallabies training squad before the clash against Argentina.

Timani is an attractive inclusion, given the 203-centimetre, 120-kilogram giant's presence.

Flanker Michael Hooper said being belted by South Africa was a ''wake-up call'' for the forward pack.

''I think we were playing the wrong style against a very big Springbok pack and they were dominating us,'' Hooper said.
