Brumbies flanker David Pocock was cleared to fly with the forwards on Saturday night despite breaking his nose in the bruising win against the Western Force on Friday.

Hyne looms as the unexpected potential inclusion to fill in for the injured Ita Vaea and take a chance to earn his first Super Rugby cap five months after packing his life into his car and driving from Brisbane to Canberra for a training chance with the Brumbies.

Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham was waiting until after pre-season Canberra club rugby matches on Saturday before finalising the touring party.

The 23-man squad that beat the Force 31-14 will travel to South Africa, but Andrew Smith has been sent back to Canberra to recover from a foot injury.

James Dargaville, Ruan Smith and Michael Wells are expected to fly out of the capital on Monday to link up with the rest of the team.

The Brumbies are returning to Cape Town to play the Stormers nine months after thrashing their South African rivals 39-19 at Newlands in a knockout semi-final.

It was the first time the Brumbies had won in Cape Town since 2010, and the club has not won two games on a tour of South Africa since 2007.

"Cape Town is traditionally really hard to win at ... last time we were there we won really well," inside centre Matt Toomua said.

"A couple of years ago when we beat the Bulls in a semi-final in Pretoria we went back the next season and they really dished it up to us.

"We're expecting something similar from the Stormers. They have a lot of pride in their home ground, they'll come out firing at us. We've got a few battered bodies so we just have to regroup and get ready to go again."

Hyne trained with the Brumbies through the pre-season after packing his life into a car and driving from Brisbane to Canberra to take the slimmest of chances.

It has paid dividends, with Hyne offered a development contract with the Brumbies and it is likely he will be put on a supplementary deal while he's in South Africa.

Hyne helped Brisbane City win a National Rugby Championship title and was part of the Queensland Reds system before moving to the capital.

The Brumbies are hopeful that Vaea will make a recovery from a dislocated finger and Larkham is giving him until the last minute to prove his fitness.

The Brumbies are riding high after beating the Force to stay undefeated following the first three games of the year.

Pocock busted his nose in the second half and had to be taken from the field to stop the blood flow and have a head injury assessment.

He was cleared of serious damage and the openside flanker isn't expected to miss any games.

"The Stormers have started pretty well this year and they're playing a very physical style again, they've got one of the strongest defences in the competition and nothing has changed there," Larkham said.

"It's difficult to win over there ... we've travelled quite well in the last couple of years, but it doesn't mean we'll travel this time as well."

The Brumbies will not train together as a team until Tuesday, with the squad split over three different flights to Johannesburg and then on to Cape Town.

The forwards flew out of Perth on Saturday night. The backs were to follow on Sunday with the rest of the players departing from Canberra on Monday.
