But Kuridrani and Brumbies teammate Henry Speight have joined forces to start raising money at the club's first Super Rugby game on Friday night and will ship clothing, shoes and supplies to Fiji over the weekend.

Fiji is still coming to grips with the damage done by Cyclone Winston last weekend, with villages destroyed and homes flattened in the storm.

The Brumbies' Fijian connection swung immediately into action after finding out their families were safe, urging teammates to donate old rugby kit and organising for donations to be made at Canberra Stadium.

The ACT Academy of Sport came to the party on Friday, dropping off boxes of new clothing to send to families in Fiji.

Volunteers from the Fiji High Commission of Australia will collect donations at the ground before the Brumbies kick off their season against the Wellington Hurricanes.

Money raised will go to Save the Children while Speight and Kuridrani will auction their jerseys on allbids.com after the match.

"Hearing the news and everything that's been happening in Fiji has really affected me throughout this week," Kuridrani said.

"Just thinking about people back home and the things they've been going through.

"... Just a dollar coin can help someone with a bottle of water to drink. Hopefully donate as much as you can. I'll put my jersey up on auction after the game ... we'll send it all back home."

Speight's old high school – the Queen Victoria School – was severely damaged in the storm while his aunt had to be moved and his sister's home was flooded.

Speight met with the Fiji High Commissioner to Australia earlier this week to discuss ways he could help.

"It's a pretty tough time [everyone in Fiji] is going through at the moment. Being Fiji born and raised with Tevita, it's just something we felt was the right thing to do and we want to do," Speight said.

"We just want some awareness and some assistance for them, even how little it is, it can go a long way.

"... Family houses have been torn apart, houses were flooded and my high school was totally damaged. We're just keen to give back."

Speight and Kuridrani will renew their outside backs combination as the Brumbies begin their season.

The pair have been mainstays of the Brumbies' back line since teaming up in 2012 and both have gone on to play for Australia in Test rugby.

However, Fiji is still close to their hearts. Kuridrani's village was decked out in Wallabies supporters' gear during the World Cup campaign.

Speight sends Brumbies gear to his family and sends photos back home when he arrives at every Super Rugby game to make them feel like they are part of his journey.

Everyone at Canberra Stadium is urged to make a gold coin donation, while details of the auction for the pair's jerseys will be put online after the match.
