The ACT Brumbies have embraced Canberra's centenary, modelling a commemorative jersey they will wear in next weekend's home clash with the NSW Waratahs.

Winger Joe Tomane and scrumhalf Nic White ventured up into the morning air in a hot air balloon on Tuesday morning, showing off the mainly gold jersey they'll wear in their next home match.

The March 9 clash against the Waratahs is one of the key events in Canberra's 100th birthday long weekend.

It will take on even more excitement for the Brumbies, whose fast start to the year has them on top of the Super Rugby table with two wins from two.

While a completely new look for the club, the gold jersey should also feature some very familiar faces.

Brumbies and Wallabies great George Smith will make a shock return to Australian rugby on a short-term contract, joining another comeback kid, Clyde Rathbone.

The pair have re-established a connection to the last successful Brumbies team of 2004.
